Hey Jo, while we have your attention...
Something missing from Muzys and from other similar products is a feature I hope you will bring forth in a new application.
The ability to SLAVE from an external host.
Rewire is another thing entirely.
I want external control from a hardware sequencer.
Thanks!!!

Why not slave your hardware sequencer?
Which hardware sequencer do you think of?

I'm so glad you asked!muzycian wrote:Why not slave your hardware sequencer?

Jo, curently my interests are focused on my live performance work. My original workflow used the computer as the central "brain" for all my sounds, but I have recently shifted that method to make the laptop more of an external performance module. The reason for this is that I do not trust the computer to perform flawlessly for extended periods of time. Commercial hardware sequencers such as the one I use - EMU Command Station XL-7 - are built from the ground up for this type of use.
Currently I am slaving Ableton Live to my Command Station and this works beautifully. Why is this such a beautiful thing? Because if and when the laptop decides to crash, the Command Station will continue to perform without stopping. I can simply restart the laptop and bring the computer generated grooves back into the mix. This is a far better soltuion than apologizing to the audience during SILENCE while the laptop restarts!
Also, this workflow allows for **non-stop** performances, where I can keep the XL-7 going, while I load new files in Ableton. (Currently there is no way to load a new 'set' in Live without stoppping the audio.) In fact, I can switch between apps like Live, Energy XT, stand alone synths, samplers, whatever I want using this method.
Simply said, the hardware seqeuncer will go uninterupted while I load new sounds on the computer.
Another potential live performance situation is if I want to slave to another musician's equipment. This could be software or hardware in this case.
If you are only interested in developing a workstation for producers then I could understand that my wishes don't mean too much. But in Muzys, I believe one the greatest features was the playroom, and in a way we can already get Muzys to slave to note events sent by an external device, but it would be ideal to have midi clock information coming IN to Muzys (or your new app) instead of just OUT.

Good to hear from you again!
I agree with Mark. Having Muzys (NextMuzys?) slave to an external sync would have been (will be? OK, enough mixed tenses) really useful. I could have used it in two scenarios.
The first scenario, like Mark's, is performance related. It would have seen Muzys slave to a Midi Clock generated by a Lexicon Jamman. IOW, having Muzys sync to an external tempo control would open up a whole set of new possibilities.
The second, would have seen us sync Muzys up to a Tascam DA-88. We managed to sync the DA-88 to Muzys via MTC, but this was really clumsy and impractical.
Hope all is well in NDAland! Cheers, Lewis

Yep, i see what you mean.
The ability to sync to an external device surely is an advantage.

I have completely moved on host-wise, but I'd love to see muzynth as a VST!
