Hey Ron,
Just a quick word of advice. If you're serious about wanting to beta-test software in the future, a good way to start is to do a bit of programming - I'm guessing that you don't at the moment.
A good start would be something web-design-based, such as Javascript, or better still, PHP. I've worked as a professional beta-tester for loads of pro-audio/video companies for over a decade and the best insight into finding bugs you can get is by learning a little programming yourself. Only by finding, reproducing and tracking down errors in your own code can you learn the best methods for testing someone else's. Simply posting things marked "BUG:" in forums without a repeatable proof is sadly not really of much use and can even be viewed by some as a negative thing...
So make yourself a lovely cup of tea, break open the nice biscuits, go to http://www.php.net, download the guide and start doing some PHP programming for fun - I guarantee within a while your bug-reporting will be 'cleaner', more useful and more widely-respected.
Remember, if programming something like Tracktion was easy, everyone would have done it by now...

Absolutely not. I reckon hardcore programmers often make the worst testers - it's just that if you learn a bit of programming, you start to realise how programmers think, but can still think of all the things they didn't think of...pHz wrote:f**k ... to be a proper tester i need to try and become one of those geeky codehead types ?!?
...(I feel I should really add "young Padowan" to the end of that).

So what your saying is: because my c++ code sucks donkey balls, I must be a really good tester? Thanks mate!philip wrote:Absolutely not. That's what Julian used for Tracktion v1. Though he did have the 16k Ram Pack, obviously (but not the little printer that burned its writing onto a tiny roll of silver toilet paper).pHz wrote:i wrote some stuff in BASIC on my 1Kb RAM sinclair ZX81 back in the day if that helps ...
And a pair of pants on his head.
