I never even gave a passing thought to Coldplay until I saw the Tim Hope video for "Trouble"
I think they are *not bad*, but every song is soooo overplayed that even the most unoffensive of songs becomes nauseating after a while.

God I hate them and the self-rightous pig they rode in on!
Hallelujah!!!!!
BTW - I read a review a few months ago of the *Athlete* album. The reviewer described them as one of the better "I can't belive it's not Coldplay" bands

.....and I'm not afraid to admit that I was blown away the first time I heard "Yellow".
Still like 'em quite a bit.
Mrs Scuzzphut loves Radiohead, REM and Coldplay - in that order.

Coldplay is tight. There is a little bit in their music for everyone. I probably like 1 out of 10 of their songs, but they are all pretty talented musicians IMO. Just like in radiohead, I dont like the drummer either. "Trouble" had a great piano and vocal combo methinks. "Clocks" would of been a great track if the drummer was more original.
As for radiohead, if you say you hate them you are either being a douche or havent heard them much. They are straight up original and have a huge span of songs so (Like coldplay) There is something in their music for everyone. I probably like only 1 out of 15 of their songs, but i love some of them. If you dont like radiohead, try these:
-Everything in it's right place
-Idioteque
-Like spinning plates
-Paranoid Android
And remember that most bands will make a cheesey pop song or 2 to sell their album, so you shouldnt dislike a band for just what you hear of them on the radio/TV.
EDIT: U2 may have a few good tracks, but did you know they decided to start a band before they could play any instruments? It shows, doesnt it...

PArachutes is a great album, I still really like that. A rush of blood to the head, was good at first listen, but I never quite liked it enough to give it heavy rotation. This album and even ROBTTH clearly show that they are label sweethearts and are doing their best to cater to the label and make a smash "adult contemporary rock" album.
I still like them, but there is something about them that grates on me. I think they are pretty good musicians, but wouldve like to see them change their sound abit. Good artists can do that if they write strong material...

I don't listen to the radio or watch tv, so they don't bother me one way or the other. the wife has 'parachutes' and I thought that was ok. depressing, but ok.

I just saw Chris Martin on TV comparing himself to The Beatles & Bowie!
What he actually said was... "we're not like them, we're not geniuses. We write a lot of songs that are shite!"
I don't mind Coldplay & will have a listen to the new record.
So their music won't change the world... so what?
They just make the music they make, like the rest of us.
Some people like it... some don't.
Get over it.

I like Coldplay too. At first I thought they were more a 'poor mans Radio Head' than U2. But they do have a unique sound and style that I just can't deprive them of anymore.
But I hear what Seamoss is saying about lack of production. The same thing for me happened when listening to The Tragically Hip. Early material sounded 'bang on', and Trouble At The Hen House was the pinnacle in sound and texture for me. But ever since that, I really like what they're going for - but the production just sounds 'flat' now? Phantom Power, Music At Work, and the later just sounds 'lacking' for some reason, though the material has got the balls in every other regard?
Either the bands get to apathetic in their success and figure they can just 'phone it in' so to speak... Or they're actually trying to introduce a new challenging texture that just isn't working.
Either way - it's a shame when it happens.

I like Coldplay.
I like U2.
I like Nine Inch Nails.
I like Moby.
I even like BT
Everyone has different tastes. I fail to see why this is such a crime around here sometimes
Anyway, swanning around the world, getting paid to play music, marrying a movie star... Sure beats the 9-5 lifestyle in my book.

Horrible band, can't understand the cognitive leap a person would have to make to actually enjoy something as awful as a coldplay song. I'd rather be locked in a cold, bright room for 30 hours, with an agonizing hangover, listening to Merzbow at full volume than listen to an entire Coldplay album.
