OK my deff of a workaround for Mackie
start selling the Mackie only vershion (like the downloadable demo) online?
this should not breach theare contracts with the 3rd party plugin developers (this is a guss BTW!)
oh well thats me finished on this subject as it is not a problem for me

Not a problem for me as well
But I wonder if it is in the contracts for the plug-in devs to not sell a plug-less version online. Otherwise why wouldn't they?

How full of sh*t are Mackie ?
Same deal or you are taking the piss full stop.
Dont come some b*llshit about international laws and this that and the other, If you cant do it outside the US dont do it inside the US.
Isn't there anyone there intelligent enough to realise that this will lead to lost customers ?

If i don´t find a retailer in norway within a month i am going over to EXT.
I love tracktion 1 NFR, but want some of the features of V2. So if i can´t uppgrade then i have to look for something else.
I don´t care about any rebate since the V2 with plugins is cheap enough as it is + i got the V1 for free.

Excellent post, braj
I agree with you braj - that would have avoided a lot of bad feeling and upset, and would have still been a really good - and bang up to date - business model.braj wrote:I personally think it would have been way better for Mackie to have concentrated on only including thier own native plugs and kept T2 a download-only product. They could have easily charged $129 or something and kept all the money, and all users everywhere would have T2 by now. They still could have bundled it with their hardware and have a print advertising campaign. They could have even shipped CD demos off to music stores ala AOL for perople who would never have found it on the web. To be purchased and unlocked online.
I agree there, too. Once the dust settled I was happy to buy the $20 download myself, partly because I actually wasn't interested in the plug-ins anyway. Final Mix is great, but would have been included anyway. Many of the others are free. Sampletank appears to be problematic for some within Tracktion, so was frankly a strange choice in the first place. Which only leaves RMIV, which is certainly attractive, but if I bought it I would want a version that I could use in Live as well as Tracktion, rather than a limited one.Face it, the bundled plugs aren't that great and definitely not worth the hassle IMO. Many users have better alternative plugs anyway. Anyone who wanted T1 could get it easily. Not so for T2. I definitely don't see this as progress.

I agree.aldi wrote:that is what concernes me most !kpbpsw wrote:but this is at best a few months off due to DEVELOPEMENT ... issues.
With the massive marketing campaign and excellent reviews for T2, Mackie are very much "playing with the big boys" of the sequencing world now, and need to follow the same rules as the others regarding customer support/service/squishing bugs/etc.
So for example they simply cannot afford to spend another 2 years before the MIDI note drop bug gets squished... along with the various other issues that have been raised.
Not can they afford to ignore key feature requests when companies such as Ableton demonstrate that a gazillion requested features can smoothly be added in under a year.
However much we respect, admire and appreciate Jules' genius concept and great coding in the past, the ball has well-and-truly been dropped regarding bug fixes. Things have moved on, Mackie has positioned Tracktion to take on a while new market, and they now need to provide a team of coders to support Jules, or Tracktion will simply fail against the very hot competition, imho.

I thought The Mackie team would have studied and planned acordingly their worldwide marketing strategies ahead of time.jalapeno wrote:Confusion abounds - This is on the Mackie support Forum

Do these guys know what they are doing ?Hey guys,
We apologize for the delay, but rest assured - plans are still in the works. There are many more logistics to deal with than we originally anticipated, and though I'm not directly involved in the plans, I can say for certain that we're getting closer. Hang in there!

They had a full year for doing so and I just can´t beleive that a Company that has had distributors worldwide for some time now, had not envisioned the problems that could arise from the different country regulations.
I have thought (and expressed so in this forum before until I got flamed to death
The consumer market is very unforgiving and reading about a great application in mags but not being able to buy it gets people to move on to something else.
Unlike most of this forum`s users. Most people out there have no reason to blindly follow Jules/Mackie/Tracktion and patiently wait for the availability of a box in their local store. It has been a full month since the unveiling of T2 and there is very little new about T2s presence outside of the USA and let´s not even talk about the actual retail price
So I keep watching out for the outcome of this situation mostly out of a personal interest not related to buying it for me but someone else.
Also I am just curious as this could be a perfect example of misplanned marketing and research strategy of a product.
Let´s hope for the best for all parts involved

Again let me state that we do support our products in outside the US but we must support or distribution channel that has helped build Mackie. With regard to letting US stores ship outside the US - this is not possible as due to duties and shippng and local support that our distributors supply would be hurt and in the end hurting our ability to support the world wide market.
The similarities between the ITunes while I agree is not a perfect analogy there are many similarities as we have to work with-in the laws of each county (making the rebate thing impossible to administer) and the agreements with the other companies involved in the plug-in bundle. We do have to deal with copyright laws for software! I am sorry you did not like my iTunes analogy but it is the best one I could come up with to try and get you to see what the problems we have to deal with to get this out to you and others.
We are working hard to get the product out and in stock by all our distributors and will continue to do so. We are building a new software platform and investing very heavily in Tracktion. But it takes time to build this world wide. We are investing massive marketing resources and development resources in Tracktion and pushing our partners to do the same.
We have been working hard t come up with better solutions to get the product out there. The boxed version includes so much stuff that downloading would be totally impractical. We did and do offer the basic upgrade (with the Mackie Dynamaics set as a low cost online upgrade) and that did not include the difficulties of the rebate offer it was offered internationally.
And are learning from this and next time (hopefully T3) this will not be an issues.
Please we all read this board and others and try to understand our users needs and appreciate your suggestions and it does have impact on what we do.
We are fixing the international distribution issues - sorr bit it will take a little longer. If you could work to help us define what the priority of new features for future releases of Tacktion should be that would be a much more interesting use of your efforts.
