Ouroboros: cheers for the compliment. :D

Braj: not really. I only get to work on it a little at a time, and I constantly seem to be missing the right tools for the job. Then there's cost-- I still don't have the budget to finish (ie. paint, not "complete") it yet so I'm not in a rush.

Everyone has enough skill and patience to do something like this (it can be frustrating, but it doesn't take Herculean patience or anything), but the tricky part is finding the time and having access to the tools (which I don't always).

I have a kid. All my free time beyond him and the wife I try to make some music. And do some gardening. I would never get around to finishing a guitar.

Lunch,

Sweet, I actually built one guitar, or rather, I took one I had and used the neck and other stuff, mainly rebuilding the body of it.

Added some piezos aswell, for that crisp sound.

And since Im not much of a guitar player, I stringed it with only 3 strings tuning them to preform "power-chords".

I also have a theme one on the build for my Metal band, to be featured by the main guitarist (that is the other guy in the band)

Using the same method.

So I can (with some sort of credit) say that you're doing great, I would never ever try to make a guitar from scratch myself, its a gigantic job.

Aw, shucks. :D It's all about the tools, though, I tellz ya. That said, you can build almost an entire guitar with only 4 tools:

- a bandsaw or similar tool for cutting out the rough shapes
- a router
- a ruler
- some clamps

That's a bit simplified, but the main one is the router. Indispensible and only ~$60!

I'd say a sander is necessary or you'll be screaming 'I've got splinters in me fingers!!!'

Sander, not necessary. Cabinet scraper or sandpaper necessary. ;)

Sandpaper, sander, you know what I meant :P Or are you just being obstinant? :hihi:

Well, sandpaper is thin and can be worked over the surface by hand or using a hand-held block. A sander is a powered machine that holds sandpaper. That's a mighty large difference! So while I agree that sanding is a necessary process, I don't list a sander as being one of the tools necessary to making a guitar. :D

Squonk,
Did you happen to ever play a game called balderdash?
Erm, no. Why?
Oh, because that is the one and only place I have heard the word squonk used. Its kind of a board game where you hear a funny word and make up a definition. As I recall the actual word squonk was : A mythological wart coverd bird that spends its days feeling sorry for itself.

but...nevermind
Oh, right. No, it's an old Genesis track from Trick of the Tail, about a mythological creature (more like a rat than a bird) who dissolves into a pool of tears to escape when captured by hunters.

Oh, and nice project LM. I have plans to make myself a Breadwinner when I get some time between work and children.
Trying to change the world by posting on a forum is like crying on the Sun to put it out.

Breadwinner, the most reviled of guitars. :hihi: I love it, though. :!:

Not this time around, so I guess it's not completely scratch-built. I AM interested in winding my own some day, but that'll be off in the distance. This one uses a pair of Seymour Duncans, my next one (for my dad) will use something budget like Golden Age or Mighty Mite, and the following one will likely use Bartolinis. After that, the sky's a bit more open. :D
