superdude: AFAIK, there is no such option. You have to use a plug-in. Get the SX mono, from TBT, it looks good and it carries a nice message with it. :wink:

ermi, why dont you use the old c_superstereo, it has a mono button, and plenty of cool features...

I used to wnat to widen almost ANYTHING, but as I've gotten further in to sequencing and the like I've found a remarkably reduced need for stereo widening, almost to the point of nothing. There are only a few instances where delaying a channel by <100ms may be useful. But even that's really rare for me now. I was wondering if anyone else can say the same;

Just how often do you feel you need to widen stereo, and for how many events?

It's hard enough trying to fit everything without doubling up on more that one component and finding space for the twins... :shrug: ...just curious about the direction.

I sometimes widen a mono track to make it fill up a bit more space at the location it is panned at. It seems to be used a lot in the industry and is also called fattening.

It's talked about alot in David Gibson's book on mixing.

The actual stereo field is made with regular panning. I don't tend to try for a massive type of width.

You may also want to check our widening equalizers. Fully Mono compatible (can also help you to make your Mono version sound better):

To hear the "Mono" part of the signal, just set the "Sides" volume to minimum.
