aside from the vst issue - it seems to me that the Tracktion GUI kinda makes this a moot question.
THats the thing that really was the deciding factor for me in makeing the full switch - Tracktion pretty much looks the SAME on either a Mac or PC. I dont have that "windows" feel when I run Tracktion (and thats a good thing). It just feels more creative.

I agree completely. I also actually considered switching to a pc for that reason. Ultimately, I realized there were way too many things on the mac that I'd miss.
Ironically, we'll all be using pc's next year. Some of them will just have an apple logo. All of them will be faster. Many could be running OS X - illegally or legally depending on how soon Apple decides to play along. Good news all around.

pentium 4 with sse3 are reputed to run the osx hack faster than "normal" osx on mac g5!!

how real is this? i have herd from a insider from apple in 2004 that thay where working on a IBM compatebule vershion of mac,
threads have been up all over the place saying thats its out there, with counter threads saying it will never work on a normal windows pc
whats the truth?
will i one day not to far away be leagaly able to have a dule boot on my amd pc one osx & one windows? or is this just a dream?

Even if we are able to run OSX on non-Apple PCs, why would you want to go through the trouble? Personally, I'm more concerned with having a stable system than use a hack to allow my PC to run OSX. Every time Apple offers a software online update for OSX I'd have to jump through hoops to make my hacked OS run or find an updated hack. Who has the time? I'd rather make music on the most stable system possible, and I'm sure Apple's Hardware/Software integration offers that.
If you want to run OSX, buy a Mac. If you want to run XP, Linux, or whatever else, buy a PC. Ultimately, don't forget your goal..to make music.

I agree, if you run a hacked OS isn't that the same as using cracked plugins?

One is copyright infringement, and denies a 3rd party monies owed.
The other, assuming you legally own OSX, is breach of license agreement. Apple could demand the OSX discs back on the grounds that the license has been breached, but then they'd have to prove that the typical EULA for software actually has any legal value. For a large chunk of the globe, most software EULAs inhabit very dubious legal territory, so they probably wouldn't bother.
It's a bit like modifying a car to fit an after-market radio. Whilst the manufacturer might *like* to be able to stop such behaviour, the best they can do is void your warranty. Really, that's about the size of it for Apple too...

Many mac minis have been returned to local dealers and music stores here due to customers being really dissapointed with their performance...I love my Compaq w/AMD 3200+ chip and 512 Ram..

Not that I doubt it, but do you have any data to back that up? My guess is that a Mini would run Logic really well, since my old ass 667 laptop actually does a decent job. I really think this is a good combo - Mini and Logic Express. If you can afford Pro you really should be able to buy a better computer anyway.

A mac mini is really just an ibook without a display. There are plenty of people making good music on ibooks running Logic, Tracktion, and other software. Of course, you have to understand your needs.
My 400MHz G4 runs Express and T2 just fine(8-12 tracks, a few reverbs, compressors, and delays). I will be upgrading soon to an iMac G5. It seems perfect for my needs.
