Let me do educated guess: filter wise SSM2040 has similar topology to CEM3320 and DSI Pro 6 filter board is some standard op-amps, so it should be closer to 3320 - which is simple set of building blocks - rather than to LP only 2040. Also vintage P5s are very different even within one revision, not like vintage Moogs but still.db3 wrote:P6 has a discrete SSM based filter doesn't it?david.beholder wrote: Btw, I've sold P6 after direct comparison becuase I was very satisfied by sound of RP5 .
I'm assuming Repro is modelling P5 rev3 Curtis and not the nicer P5 rev2 SSM. Even so, Repro-5 seems much less harsh than my Rev2 (which I'm also selling).
May be SSM2040 has different resonance values - that's why
But in general I guess Rev2 has it's fame for VCO detune (SSM VCO instability), that gives chorusier sound during the doubling, rather than for significant difference in filter / mixer behavior.
Plus there P6 has HP which is also adding harshness over any P5.
