Hi all, just released a new M4L device for Ableton - an 8-bit polyphonic synth inspired by retro gaming consoles.

Polycrush 16 is a polyphonic synthesizer inspired by the old 8-bit sounds from retro video game systems of the 80s and 90s. It offers two oscillators as well as a third sub oscillator. Each oscillator has sixteen wave shapes to choose from. From there, you have typical ADSR control over your sound, followed by a bit crusher to make sounds even more lo-fi.

There are also a couple innovative features in the oscillator section. Each oscillator has a display that lets you visualize the waveform. Four buttons on the left of this viewer allow a user to select a portion of the cycle, adjust the selection, scrub through the waveform, as well as draw your own for limitless sound creation potential.

Another easter egg feature is the ability to drop in your own waveforms. This is accomplished by dropping your waveform of choice upon the pixelated images - the heart for oscillator one and the star for oscillator two.

Also included are eighteen presets - six plucks, six basses and six poly leads.

Free updates for life. Planned features moving forward include expanded preset selection, expanded oscillator shapes, and further sound sculpting capabilities in the form of an LFO, a filter envelope, and perhaps some soft clipping.

These retro waveforms have a lovely way of cutting through a mix and can sound positively dreamy with a bit of reverb or delay added. Polycrush. Introductory pricing of $12. Requires Ableton Live Suite as it's a Max for Live device.

Hi all,
I'm back with something new! I've spent a lot of time building this FM synth called Plume. It's kind of two-faced, in that it can be beautiful and lush with evolving, pure tones, and it can also be aggressive and nasty and downright surprising, thanks to the Magic panel - essentially seven math-fueled algorithms I created to alter, mangle and otherwise ignite the sound. Each of these algorithms is controlled by the Amount knob and this knob functions a bit differently depending on the mode selected. It's one of those effects that you have to explore, as there are various sweet spots.
Plume also offers four different waveforms (sine, saw, square and triangle) to choose from for both the carrier and the modulator. Combine this with a pitch LFO for subtle vibrato warbles or full on wobbles, a spread knob for stereo spread, and a preset selector/saver and you've got what I think is a heck of a lot of value for $9. Also, the sounds that you can create with that Magic panel alone can really set you and your tunes apart.

Thanks for your time and happy music making. Also, the Black Friday sale is still on as well so feel free to apply that 25% off to Plume and whatever else my shop offers - til the end of November with the code BLACK25
Cheers,
ian

Second batch of MIDI plugins from Philip Meyer. Normally $35, intro price of $25, but if you already own the original set as a bundle(*), $12.50 with a code you should have got by email by now. (Or request direct, as per the video)

(* that's the commercial set, btw, not the smaller set that Ableton made available as a Pack with Live 12.1)

Couple of them are freebies too.

Stright and Belay are pretty wild and amazing for sound design and weirdness. premium devices so a bit more expensive than typical but worth imo

Thanks for posting these devices, I didn’t know about them at all. Belay is brilliant, and I’ll probably get Stright too. Lovely stuff.

Not a Max for Live device, but I want to support the creator:

Got the complete collection of DeafMan's themes a while ago. The price is pretty good given the amount of themes and work invested into creating those. Great and well picked color variants. Great option for any kind of light environments and truly an enhancement for any intense Live user. Especially the dark themed ones: there is no other theme I know of which really works in ultra-dark environments, but RED|Light Themes does and does it well! DeafMan's great sense for colors is proven.

Best themes for Live one can get. Since I got the bundle, I stopped using the factory themes. Depending on my mood and/or lightning of my environment – I just pick one of DeafMan's themes :)

The complete collection comes with 87 (!) themes + custom fonts! And those are not just some arbitrary color variants. One can see that each of the themes is well-balanced and thought out. Even after getting rid of the themes I do not like, I'm still left with 37 themes I really enjoy using. Again, great stuff for any Live user!

Here some of my favorites ...

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?
