Personally, I thought jd88's criticism was a bit harsh. Yes, there have been some bugs but many have been solved and Jo is pretty quick to jump on new ones. I find he's open to other ideas in general and I can sympathize with trying to extend Mulab further by himself. It's an awful lot of work. Not to mention that everyone has a different take on what should be added next.
Jo, if you ignore your user base for minute, what direction do you want to take Mulab? What are your priorities?
Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way criticising you Jo, not one bit! I and very grateful for everything you added and despite our differences at times, I fully support you.
I was trying to point out to jd88 your position and that none of us are getting what we want, not everything I mean, and then tried to explain the reason for that. I won't ever stop using MuLab, even though those things won't change. I am fully understanding of why that is, I just hope that can change one day.

Also, Redux works fine for me in Mulab. Using Windows 11.
@jd88 - I know you're using Mac but just thought I'd mention this.

Essentially: Everything that juices sound, everything that inspires sequencing, and everything that catalyzes the chemistry between sound & sequencing.dayvyg wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 1:47 pm Jo, if you ignore your user base for minute, what direction do you want to take Mulab? So i'd love to further grow MuLab's own modular sound engine, both sound-wise as sequencing-wise, and the interesting crossover in between.
All this with a rather minimalistic yet inspiring GUI that leaves a lot of fresh air for the creative brain.
I'm certainly also interested in connecting to interesting technologies like MPE, ARA, though i first need to explore them more before i can say more about that.
Maybe i'll also explore making parts of MuLab available as a separate plugin, if that would be interesting.
Anyway, the very next priorities are:
- Take a kind of holiday break. That's a too long time ago. I'll be making a road trip, but will calmly continue some works on the laptop.
- MuLab Plugin as VST3 / CLAP / ...
- More tutorial videos

I don't think that will ever be possible, or that it's even a good thing.
We are in KVR, a consumer marketplace with social media that encourages posts which follow economic delusions of more demand, more supply and more competition.
KVR is not an artistic community. I rarely see users asking for software to be more musically rewarding and emotionally satisfying, as Jo describes above.
Yet we humans live in a world full of limits, and the role of artists is to show the delusion of "more" by showing creative ways to turn limits into advantages.

Thats why I said what I did!
I don't ask for more musically rewarding things as you put it because I am perfectly happy with what is there, but there are always things that need to be made easier to use and fixed.
Limits force creativity, I know this, but when it comes to workflow, it stifles it. So your comment is only partially correct. You always talk a good talk, but are quite harsh and spiteful always using passive aggression in your replies. Something I have seen grow in people over the last few decades, it's quite sad how people treat each other! Easily done when it's not face to face! All for the sake of Ego! I'm not attacking you, just an observation as that is how you come across, intentionally or not.
I want WaitNote recording, even offered Jo a private transaction, but that was years ago, he was too busy at that time to look into it, and I can no longer afford it. It actually makes life so much easier with it, yet no-one else wants it.
The bug I mentioned previous about loop recording forcing the gate time of the note at the beginning of the loop being cut regardless of played length, has been there since M6/7 or so and is really annoying. I even tested this with a fresh install on different PC's, still there. Again, no-one seems to notice it.
These are the only two things for me stifling creativity, these are limitations to creativity. So saying the only important thing is to basically add more features is not really the way to go when there are things that could improve MuLab AS IT IS NOW!
Features are secondary to workflow. If you have a DAW that has every feature you want but has the shittiest workflow, who's gonna use it? You? I don't think so!
Again, I am not attacking Jo, I understand the situation, but if the concentration goes onto FR's all the time, then it starts to get like AirMusicTech!!! Go look at that forum and see how happy their customers are! Then you'll see that releasing new products with new features without updating and fixing existing ones is NOT the way to go! Jo is actually pretty hot when it comes to fixing bugs!!! So jd88's comments were at best, naive.
There have been several major reworks to MuLab in recent years, and I am grateful for it all. It has been very useful. But those two annoying things I need are pushing me back to hardware. I've spent hundreds on VST's and I rarely buy them as I am just a hobbyist. But being a hobbyist shouldn't matter, a customer is a customer regardless.

Hello, I'm on Windows, using Mulab 10.1.22 and I can't get the Roland Zenology Free VST3 plugin UI. I can hear the sound of the default preset, but that's all...

Roland VST3's are a long-standing issue within MuLab, but the issue seems to be with Roland, not MuLab.

I've gotten most of the FR's I asked for I think. Personally, I think Jo is doing an amazing job.
As for MuLabs popularity, that's a tough one, many folks are just not interested in a DAW that
doesn't have a tremendous user base and is largely unknown.
I recommend it constantly, especially to developers, it's rare that they are willing to even to
look into it.

As for the redux issue on macOS, it's actually a Redux plugin problem. The Renoise Redux.vst3 directory is missing the binary file `Pkginfo` to be seen as a bundle. I've copied the Pkginfo from the Contents directory of the Waldorf Largo 2 plugin to the Contents directory of the Renoise Redux, and now the Redux can be seen and opened by MuLab. I've seen this problem before, some hosts don't mind, but MuLab does, so try this and it should work as expected.
This might also work for the Roland VSTs, but I don't own'em, so can't try that out.

Tracktion Waveform free, or the DDMF Metaplugin bridge VST can open Roland Zenology so why not Mulab ?

For a while I couldn't even get Roland standalone versions to start up, let alone run inside a DAW... Roland and VST isn't somewhere I'd want to go again.sl23 wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 5:24 pm Roland VST3's are a long-standing issue within MuLab, but the issue seems to be with Roland, not MuLab.
