To me, it doesn't tbh. I think it is a good idea when buying/trying/using a new [insert whatever] to know something about the product. Release notes, landing page of the product, etc...i don't find that ridiculous at all..Ou_Tis wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 3:20 pmIf it had still been in beta maybe I'd have some sympathy for that argument.exmatproton wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 2:22 pm
So..now you learned the hard way that you should read release notes first...![]()
But I waited until it was out of beta to start using it. Suggesting that people should be expected to search for and read the release notes for a new synth that's not in beta seems ridiculous.

OMG it is 4 knobs just tweak them and resave the presets. It will take you way less than 20 hours. You could have been done already if you started this yesterday.
You should have at least once in these twenty hours opened your work and checked if they were saving correctly. That's the wild part to me.

So you were paying enough attention to its development phase, but didn't check which features made it to final release? Yes, that sounds plausible...Ou_Tis wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 3:20 pmIf it had still been in beta maybe I'd have some sympathy for that argument.exmatproton wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 2:22 pm

It's interesting how one guys Zebra 2 sounds so vanilla and another guy has Zebra 2's sounds in major filmscores. lol
Like anything else, don't believe the hype. I own Zebra 2, Zebra HZ as well as Zebra 3, and they are all phenomenal.

Changing the subject, I have a question relating to multicore support.
I understand the additional complexity around modern CPUs makes the implementation of multicore support even trickier than it used to be. But I wonder what proportion of Z3 users base are still using 'old school' processors which don't have a mixture of cores?
Whatever optimizations were made on Z3 during the beta phase have worked really well, such that I can run a single instance with only a very few patches causing glitches. However, multiple instances of Z3 soon start to tax my CPU.
Speaking for myself, the 'MC' button on, say, Bazille, works just fine on my fairly recently built PC. Would it be feasible to add this kind of multicore support on the understanding that it would only work on 'older' machines, while work continues on developing comprehensive support?

I do not remember such conversation (I would certainly not have used "sterile and generic")mcbpete wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 4:02 pm @urs: Is this even remotely true ? I'm sceptical at the best of times but this sounds .... well it sounds like something that never actually happened:
https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... stcount=88Z2 was hyped to no end, but it always sounded sterile and generic – something U-he admitted to me themselves a long time ago ... U-he themselves told me in a conversation that my impression was correct. Z2 had a generic sound right from the start and, after 10 years at the latest, a hopelessly outdated engine that clearly needed a complete overhaul; something that wasn’t possible at the time for internal reasons.

Yeah as I expected - for something you'd worked so hard on for so many years, even if you're were developing a new major new release it'd seem crazy to use such adjectives on your own previous major projects. I hate the spreading of misinformation - it's more damaging than some people realise, so am happy you've cleared that up. Thank youUrs wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 10:50 am I do not remember such conversation (I would certainly not have used "sterile and generic")

Quick question regarding 'disperse' on the modal resonator. Can anyone give a sense of what scale the spreading/compression of partials works on? I haven't scoped it yet, but it would be great to know where, as an example, the value of a 2x stretch would be, or 'octave displacement' stretch points etc (I presumed at the value of 50 but this didn't give the expected result)..not quite sure how to articulate what I mean, but hope you get my drift.

I honestly don't know it either. I think it's based on how wave propagation speed changes with the medium's density.Sound_Trace wrote: Sat May 23, 2026 9:58 am Quick question regarding 'disperse' on the modal resonator. I have some mental block about how to setup Zebra in Bitwig. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything since I just started using MPE alot lately.
Plunk Zebra 3 on a track
Set device header to "Use MPE"
Set track header to "Same"
Set Pitches->Pitch Bend to MPE for Up and Down
Is that it?
Thanks and sorry to ask again!
