Have and love Blackhole, so actually it's Mangleverb that interests me - though what's the diff between using it vs just chaining a distortion plugin after an instance of Blackhole? Is it just verb --> overdrive, or something truly special?

Squibs is correct. For the last 30 hours, they re-set it for everyone. So if you used it earlier, you could use it again in the last 30 hours. If you didn't use it earlier, then you could only use it once in that last day.

That's basically it. Verb->EQ->distortion. However, it's like Blackhole in that you've got the ribbon to move between two preset states smoothly, which is a bit more of a faff to automate with a few plugins lashed together unless you're using a rack in something like Ableton Live or Bidule. The "wobble" knob that controls the reverb modulation also goes a bit more, well, wobbly, than yer usual reverb.
