More of this stuff...
Well done!
:)
You know, this is just proof that there's someone out there for everything. Most of the folks who comment on my pop/rock stuff have been MIA from this project, which is understandable as this stuff is an acquired taste.

Sadly, there's only so much of this stuff that even I can do. Eventually, I will need to get back to more conventional music just to keep myself sane. LOL.

But thanks for the listen and the feedback. It is much appreciated. 4 more songs to go so enjoy them while they last.

5th track from my upcoming CD "Celestial Navigation"

I did something very different with this one. I recorded the vocals a-Capella and then recorded the arrangement around the vocals.

3 to go.

Pluto's Revenge

You made me into nothing
You turned your back on me
You dismissed my being
You thought that I wouldn't see

Well I won't take this lying down
I'll be back and bigger than ever
And you'll remember the name
Pluto

In 1977, when I first started writing and recording (God I'm old) this was the stuff I was doing. Well, actually even weirder than this as it had very little structure. It was very close to the stuff you do except with conventional synths because, back then, there was no way in hell I could afford a modular synth. Do you have any idea what one cost back then?

Anyway, everybody I played my stuff for just made weird faces and asked me if I was on drugs, which I wasn't. Gradually, as I started to learn song structure, I began writing pop tunes. I got pretty good at it. But this stuff was always my first love. That's not to say I don't love writing pop tunes because I do. In fact, after "Killer Kovers" I discovered that I love doing other people's pop tunes a lot. In fact, the last CD was the most fun I had all year hands down. The challenge of replicating an established hit was such a rush. You saw the comments I got. Several remarked that this was my best work and I agree. I nailed some of those songs outside of my singing.

Ultimately, I'll be doing lots of different kinds of music just like I always have. I get bored doing the same thing all the time. Even the weird stuff because after a while, it stops sounding weird.

6th track from my upcoming CD "Celestial Navigation"

Closer to my early stuff. 3 modular patches on this one.

2 to go.

Lunar Lunacy

Crazy
Just going crazy
Gonna go with the moon
Gonna let my hair down

Look out world
There's no telling what I'll do next
That's why they call this

I think I like your more experimental stuff!

Just curious, why are all songs on Celestial Navigation the same length (approximately)?

It was a decision to have each song be between 7 and 8 minutes long.

Thanks for the listen and the feedback.

This is very cool Wags! Great start with all the synth weirdness!
The introduction of the drums pattern section is nice. Love the vocalising...
The lead guitar is very spaghetti western.
Well done! :)

Yeah, got a little bit of everything in this stew. Only 2 tracks to go and I'm finished. Currently working on Alpha Centuri and a little bit of Lost In Space thrown in. Just wish I could find a good Theremin VST.

There is very cool iPad app called gyrosynth. I used it a few times... you control the sound by moving the iPad. Should work on iPhone too.

Listen to start of this for an example:

Yeah, but the key is duplicating the hand motion using crude MIDI controllers. That's what gives it its unmistakable Theremin sound. I've listened to all the Thermin "patches" made by a whole lot of synths and none of them sound like a Thermin. Ironic given how simple the sound itself is. You'd think it would be easy to duplicate. It's not. Look at the modern hardware Theremins they're selling. Note the architecture. That's what's missing in VSTs.

And yeah, I understand that what I'm looking for in a VST doesn't exist, which makes this even more ironic.

got one :)

yeah, the technique is the issue.
best i found was the xy pad on remote 25.
one axis to amp one to pitch.
you could try it using 2 knobs.

making an actual theremin sound like the likes of hoffman do, isnt as easy as you imagine. yeah you can pitch notes easy enough, but getting the attack timing and such, like any instrument takes time.

Then you understand my point.

Anyway, I wanted to use the intro to the Lost In Space theme for this track but I don't think I can do it justice with a conventional synth so I'm thinking of chucking the idea, as much as I hate to.
