The Ancients part 4 - Sepheritoh:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The track doesn't strike me as prog, but it does have a very nice atmosphere to it. Especially the guitars sound nice in it. I don't feel the orchestral parts work as well as they could but that's more due to the sounds than the arrangement as that is very nice. Overall, great!
Thanks! This is a problem with me and genres. If not Prog rock I don't know what this should be. At least that raises the question what genre Pink Floyd should be. Who knows, maybe the only prog rock rule not adhered to is that it must have vocals. But then, so does country music.

Thanks for the nice possitive comments though.

Thanks!!

Glad it could stirr up some emotions. Glad you enjoyed.

Yeah, I guess we are showing our age there. I wish more modern stuff would follow suite... I get bored with 4/4 and same keys, at least, if there is no killer groove like Seal puts on (like Crazy.... man that stuff really grabs me).

Well, I am off to try out my troubadour chops. peace.

You are short listed!
Cheers, gag3. 8)

But I should probably confess that before this month I hadn't heard a note of Gentle Giant. In fact, my only voluntary exposure to prog in the past has been the odd dip into early Genesis (out of respect for Peter Gabriel), so I took a crash course in the major prog bands via the jukebox at the prog archives.

Gentle Giant is one of the bands whose soul I cheerfully cannibalised here, but if there's any resemblance between my entry and genuine 70s prog, it's more through luck than knowledge.

And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for that pesky farlukar. ;)

Prize for spotting the incredibly subtle Genesis homage, let's see... you don't have to listen to Rush ever again?

Can I, if it's not too late, interest you in an old-fashioned search function on this thread to my post about what prog is.. ;) err.. reverend..?

..And name the song! It's not by GG..

jplanet - Overture For Shadows -> Got a Hotel California-ish vibe of the start from the sound of the guitars. Love the gentle easy-going feeling of the first 40 seconds. Nice changeups throughout.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Thijs van Leer? Lead singer for one of the greatest prog-rock bands of all time -- Focus?

Actually -- his yodeling on Hocus Pocus and Moving Waves was fantastic. :tu:

...and Jan Akkerman -- certainly one of the major influences on my guitar playing, without doubt :tu: :tu:
