Use a saw wave instead of a sine for the LFO.

thanks will try out, somehow i dont get nice results like i got with alchemy even with the wavedisplay. it's irritating, speed doesnt work always, and it seems you cannot loop easily fwd/reversed to create a nice fast pad from a small region of a sample.

i think the knobs are very confusing still, in alchemy i put the stretch knob to 1% for example and it moves very slow, here i set the speed to 2 and i have to set the duration all the way up but it moves on too fast to created a simple atmo, pad from a small section of a sample.
somehow it's irritating the controls and didnt figure out yet how to set it up properly, not convinced yet somehow, i expected it better right from the start.

also i want to play on all noted but with same speed, just need to turn the stretch on alchemy and thats it, here in padshop it seems more complex?

hmhmhmhmhm, i was so excited for it and i want to like it!

it plays not backwards when you have the duration all the way up and it wont play backwards on any - rates. it's confusing, - is always the opposite and why doesnt it work here this way? very strange for my taste.

Too bad you don't like Padshop's workflow and controls, cause it's one hell of a synth for deep and mellow soundscapes & pads. Maybe you're just too used to Alchemy and you need more time exploring it. Or maybe it's just not your synth, that happens. Anyhow, you're in good hands with Alchemy so no worries

Too bad you don't like Padshop's workflow and controls, cause it's one hell of a synth for deep and mellow soundscapes & pads. Maybe you're just too used to Alchemy and you need more time exploring it. Or maybe it's just not your synth, that happens. Anyhow, you're in good hands with Alchemy so no worries

haha yes i want to like it really, i kept an eye for it all the time, maybe i just need a good tutorial video of how to create a nice pad or mellow soundscape

How does Padshop Pro actually use imported samples? Cut into grains only, or is it even possible to play the samples from start to finish?

Padshop is granular synthesis all the way, it's not a sampler so there's no 'sample' player mode, samples are always granulated.

What's the largest grain possible? (longest time) I'm asking with a view to put this on for the One-Synth-Challenge but can't if it's possible to sneak in a sampled drum hit for example..

The knob starts from 1 and ends at 1000. But at 1000 in term of time or seconds I don't know I haven't calulated. This is from the official Padshop manual:

Duration
Increases the grain period by a factor ranging from 1 to 1000.
For very short grains, the sound gets the pitch of the frequency at which the grains repeat. For example, the grain duration at the center key C3 is 3.82 ms. If you set the grain duration to 2, the grain period is 7.64 ms, and the pitch of the sound is one octave lower.
When grains with a Duration setting above 10 are used, the sound gets the pitch of the sample.

here is a sound design tutorial, but beware in my opinion it is just bad and embarassing, i mean come on, when he shows sound design from scratch the results are like i would have been made them without a clue

Sampleconstruct's sound examples ARE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better, very disappointed of this tutorial.

My biggest gripe with this synth is that the Steinberg guys in the videos pronounce the name of this synth as "Petshop".

Steinberg releases Retrologue and Padshop Pro for VST & AU
