Not worth for my purposes. When using sample content oscilator is a good extra to compliment the sample. Like for ex add the missing body that was lost during excessive distortion and via versa

In zebras case sample playback is cool to make those Binary Finary style plucks out of organic sounds.

Zebra already has the tools to add back some missing body... samples aren't needed for that. Zebra as is can also do an amazing range of different and organic sounding plucked sounds.

And with Zebra 3, you will be able to resynthesize audio into wavetables right in Zebra...

I really dont understand what are you trying to prove with that. I have been working with music for over 10 years as my main job and i know my needs and i have my workflow. And this was merely a suggestion witch isnt a request or a must

It's getting closer, but we still haven't even updated all our other plugs for High Sierra, new preset browser and stuff (which was scheduled for Q2, and now we're in the middle of Q3). We're only half way through, it seems.

First off, "Binary Finary" was a lovely name for an artist doing some of those modern electronic tunes of the time...

But come on ,surely you could find those plucks without Zebra importing samples, which even the developer says is unlikely? I tend to listen when a developer says stuff, especially about his own product.

No. Sample import as fodder for wavetables - yes.

Ah ok. I think generic sample playback mode would make it an even stronger synth and put in between alikes like Alchemy, Omnisphere, Avenger.

In my opinion, these are not alike Zebra and I have no desire for Zebra to be like them.

Sample import moves the sound design effort away from the synth, towards the creation of samples. The synth behind the samples becomes surplus.

By golly, he has no desire for Zebra to "be like them guys"...

Speaking only for me, of course, I am a little older over here. I don't take all this modern stuff so much for granted. I am kinda grateful for all the synths out there.

Use a sampler for that stuff, hey, we are talking Binary Finary here, right? after all...

Thanks Urs. I was asking because I want to get Zebra + Dark Zebra before Zebra 3 comes out. Seems I still have some time to hopefully find a good second hand deal.
(I would definitely grab them directly from U-he if the currency is still in USD with 25% off voucher. I really do understand the reason behind the currency change and Zebra is definitely worth for the full price. But still, it's kind of expensive for student hobbyist like me.)

Dark Zebra is confusing to me. Is it a set of presets, or another VST ? If it's another VST, does it have a separate license .. i.e. can we keep using Zebra 2 also ?

yes you can still use zebra 2. buying the dark zebra requires already having a zebra 2license. dark zebra is presets for zebraHZ which has other features.

Also included, a custom-built version of Zebra2 (ZebraHZ) requested by Hans to suit his workflow. Several of the Dark Zebra presets take advantage of the extra features only available in ZebraHZ.

It's complicated...

1. You already need to own a Zebra2 license before you can even purchase Dark Zebra
2. It's technically a soundset, but...
3. It's also a separate plugin/expanded version of Zebra2 with new features that...
4. Gets attached to your existing Zebra 2 license

So the two synths will appear as separate products in your plugins folder, but for all intents and purposes, Dark Zebra (otherwise known as ZebraHZ) is an expanded version of the original Zebra with some extra MSEG's and Diva filters added in as brand new filter modules.

So if you ever said, "hey, how would Zebra2 sound with Diva filters?" Dark Zebra answers that question. If you ever said, "hey, wonder what Hans Zimmer used Zebra for in the Batman movies?" Then Dark Zebra answers that question too. If you ever said, "gee, Zebra2 would be perfect if it only had a few more MSEG's, this complex clock sound I'm making requires it," then Dark Zebra to the rescue.

At the moment, the GUI for Dark Zebra is ancient (by current U-he standards) and currently getting a facelift. The next update will also see some additional features from Zebra 2.8 make their way in, along with a few other smaller features thrown in (want to say more GLFO's but don't hold me to that).

Helps BUNCHES, thank you both. So ... just to be totally clear ... I can still load Zebra 2.8 if I get Dark Zebra, it shows up at a separate plugin you said, but I'm just trying to be absolutely sure - I love Zebra 2.8 the way it is and don't want to change it.

ZebraHZ also has a Resonator effect and VCA compressors that the standard Zebra2 does not. And the Resonator has twice the tweakability of the one in Repro1.
