If Zebra 3 is going to still have XY modulators, i think it would be pretty cool to make them recordable like in Rob Papen's Raw.

You mean you want Zebra 3 to have midi out ? Obviously it goes without saying that if your XY is mapped to a physical midi controller you can record the midi.

NOt midi out at all, check the video, its totaly different. Raw can record XY modulation internaly to the patch and playback it.

Hmm, yeah, I see what you mean, he recorded the xy right on the pad, must get saved as part of the preset. I thought you meant more like an automation channel type data so my bad :) I mean, it is kind of automation data, but it's more like an envelope the way it is used there than a performance feature.

Many Rob Papen synths have an XY pad (Blue2, Predator2, Go2, and others) on which you can draw the mouse and as you draw the motions are recorded. So anything you draw can be played back. It's maybe like creating your own steps/waves for modulation.

About MIDI, I asked Rob a few days ago about any controller that could use this and he mentioned a Korg Nano which has a XY pad.

When it comes to new paradigms for arps & seqs, there's a feature I've long wanted, but never found. Or if it's out there, I'm too dense to recognize it, I guess.

Often when using an arp or sequencer, I also want to use that voice alone, which usually means I have to manually, and abruptly, turn the arp off/on, or run two different instances of the patch. It would be very cool if the volume of the arp or sequence could be modulatable so that it can be faded in and out as desired, or automated. Even cooler if an envelope could be put on it.

Bitwig offers a ton of flexibility with this type of thing.. especially with the latest update that introduced improved modulator sequencing as well as layering of Note FX like Arpeggiators. I would definitely use something like this if it was built into Zebra as well, but I can see how that sort of thing is probably best left to a DAW perhaps.

I actually just switched to Bitwig last week, but I'm not sure how this would work unless there's some "arpeggiator volume" to modulate that's distinct from the overall volume. But I'll get in and tinker with it when I have a chance. Thanks for the idea.

Reaper's joystick support allows game controllers to midi-learn,
the x-y is fun with a good ampsim, gain, distortion, saturation etc
Helps to be good with velcro and super-glue. I'd love having
midi-out in the U-he herd.
Cheers

Any info when we gonna finally play with this synth? I hope this year...? It would be a nice Christmas present :)

I don't think Z3 will be released this year. It sounds like while they are closer, we are still a bit a ways away from it being released!

Yeah, they've still gotta get the Hive and ZebraHZ updates out. Then hopefully they can go full steam on Z3. Fingers crossed, anyways.

We have a few more maintenance updates to roll out after these two, but yeah, nothing really in the way of work on Z3.

Note that the Hive update features scannable Wavetables. The underlying code is part of Z3 development. The difference is, Zebra creates wavetables on the fly (splines, osc fx) while Hive simply loads ready-to-go .wav files.

The wait is killing me :hyper:

Are there any ETAs on Hive and ZebraHZ? :)

Tomorrow we're getting Coco, Presswerk and Howie's Zebratron soundset out. ZebraHZ is then the top priority for its UI update.

I'm very likely going to release a preliminary version of Hive at some point, for beta testing and to prepare sound designers for what's to come. I'm trying to wrap up scripting before a short vacation, not sure how far I get.
