That is indeed the number, as that's what the voicemail message said. I just haven't gotten a call back yet. I'm sure they're busy shipping mine and all the other orders.

I believe that this forum is strictly for musicians and not gamers. I know that if I decide I like this thing (a big if) , i'm going to do everything I can to it to erase every trace of 'gaming' from it

That goes for the colored dots, etc.

I will (assuming I like it) also mod the hell out of it most likely using midi maps and filters.

If it tracks well and the action is decent enough it might be worth while.

Have any of your actually played Rock Band? I wonder what it's like. Maybe I'll give it a shot

I have played Guitar Hero, and was bored to tears. It wasn't remotely entertaining at all, since I play real guitar. I guess I could see the attraction for those that aren't players though.

Comparing Rock Band or Guitar Hero to playing real Guitar?

I found the only correlation might be to improve your muscle response timing skills - nothing more.

This is why "Expert mode" Guitar Hero Team members who play in competition are not too interested in the YRG - because they get lower scores due to too many "new" muscle co-ordinations (fretting + picking one of six strings at the same time) required on the YRG as a game controller . While on the typical $19 Guitar Hero Controller, you only have to deal with a few fret buttons and one "paddle" for a string.


My complaint is still no string bending on the YRG - but I do hope it proves to be a decent "tool" for my studio.

We were lucky enough to be able to review Inspired Instruments new You Rock Guitar. This is an instrument that we almost passed over at the NAMM show. We are glad we didn't! Don't let the outer shell fool you. This is a real instrument that just happens have a mode use with a game system.

The You Rock Guitar allows people to use it for whatever they wish. We could definitely see people starting out using it as a game controller and then decide later to use it as a guitar. As a guitar the only real limitation we saw was that you couldn't bend strings. We did not find the fact the you couldn't bend strings as a limitation as you could use the whammy bar as an alternative. We actually found that the pros outweighed the cons on this new controller. We really liked the, "You Rock Mode" as it allows people to learn scales and always play in key. The tracks that came with the presets allow people to quickly jam along and the record mode allows you to quickly capture ideas. The tap mode allows you to press down on the frets in order to play a sound without having to strum.

In the studio we found the controller work straight out of the box. The guitar showed up as a standard USB MIDI controller. We found the You Rock Guitar to be very inspiring (no pun intended with Inspired Instruments) because of the fact that it let us control the virtual instruments by guitar while utilizing guitar scales and tunings. This combination led to many interesting creations and we believe it will be a pretty permanent part of our studio.

Out of all the forums out there dscussing the YRG, it only seems to be musicians that are discussing it. I would imagine most gamers would give it a miss as they'll be happy with the cheap controllers already out there for it. If they want to learn guitar I'm sure they would go to an auction site and pick up a cheap axe.

That, or gamers just have more more patience and understanding than us Muso's We're a hard breed to please!!!

I played Guitar Hero once a few years back on the PS2. A mate of mine brought it up for a lads night we had. A few beers later, I went and grabed my real axe as it turned out I knew most of the songs. The guy's got more of a kick out of me supplying the live entertainment than they did out of the computer game. Still can't to this day understand why as my playing goes down the toilet after I've had a few.

I'd say mine will be Omnisphere and Saxlab. I'll be in Pink Floyd heaven for months.

For me being in a blues/roots rock space it'll be B3s, acoustic pianos, Wurlitzer electric pianos and brass parts. I pray along with everybody else that this piece of plastic toy junk will perform yeoman's duty as a professional tool.

I don't intend on using it for guitar solo's or any real guitar parts for that matter, thats what my strat is for. I'll be using the YRG for backing tracks and some other instruments for melodies.

This also excludes the YRG as a decent controller for: Hellicasters, Jerry Donahue, Brad Paisley Country, Blues, Led Zep Rock, Yardbirds, Clapton,Jeff Beck Hendrix, etc.
