Andy I want to pick your brain about your upcoming analog synths. I'll have to risk being off topic since you haven't made a synth thread and you don't have a company forum. I haven't found a digital synth with a proper analog envelope. I'm hoping to pay Robin Schmidt to do the math to and design one based on my specification and eventually I'll use it to simulate vactrol modulation. Hope your envelope generators are the real deal.

I can briefly answer but it's a bit off topic to continue discussion here.Architeuthis wrote:Andy I want to pick your brain about your upcoming analog synths. The Drop has analog modelled envelope generators, they are based on a modified Moog Taurus envelope section, which is shown in the loudness contour / filter contour section of the schematic:

The version in The Drop also has a hold section, and various different triggering modes.

I need it to be a loopable envelope with sustain level acting as the retrigger point.

i just posted "can't you retrigger it from the built-in lfo, or a midi key?" but then i realized that doing it in The Drop wasn't actually what you were talking about, so now I'm editing my post to correct myself--apologies.

Did Program Change ever make it into the Drop?

There is currently no support for MIDI program change messages. The only MIDI messages that The Drop handles are sample accurate note on / off.
edit: Are you after MIDI or DAW based program changes?

Yes, I setup Program Change Automation in Bitwig, using all U-he plugins. And I want to add The Drop into the mix.

Can you please clarify what you mean? What type of program change messages does Bitwig send? Is it via a MIDI program change message (ie hex value 0xC0 through 0xCF for the status byte)? Does it use VST2.4 / VST3 based preset changes? Does it send Audio Unit preset changes?dlarseninclusive wrote: Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:16 am Yes, I setup Program Change Automation in Bitwig, using all U-he plugins. I don't really know what you mean here, can you please fill in some details, perhaps draw some diagrams or give an example in some way?Architeuthis wrote: Thu Aug 02, 2018 6:05 am I need it to be a loopable envelope with sustain level acting as the retrigger point.![]()
If you want a loopable envelope shape you can always use LFO2. If you want you can use an envelope to re-trigger LFO2 in time with audio events. I'm not sure what particular thing you are expected a looping envelope to do that LFO2 can't, so I'd like to hear what you mean!
edit: sorry I forgot the context of this, you are talking about a new synth product, not The Drop. But still, if a new synth product has the same variable shape LFOs that The Drop has I would still like to hear which shapes you are after a loopable envelope to have that a variable shape LFO can't do!

Yes, this is a video about the technique.
This is where I am with it, more or less.

Thanks for posting a link to the video, which has in the title "MIDI program change", so I'm going with a MIDI program change as the answer to my question

I have been working on it every day for two weeks and seemed better than a descriptive narrative. Really I just got new licenses of the drop and the scream last night. Read the manual and am just getting to know them.

I see, I intended to quote this and it did not...

Undo/Redo is planned, as is Midi Learn, program change support, and better preset browsing and searching. There are quite a few people waiting on a VST3 version, so I would like to tackle that first, but I'll see if how many of those features I can fit into the next release.
