The reason why i was focusing on channel aftertouch, and not key, was becuase i don't know how easy it would be to implement the latter from a GUI point of view... since you have a stream of controller data for each note, it might get cluttered/confusing pretty quickly. i'm not quite sure what other hosts do, maybe its color coded or something. In any case, more work for the developers.
