I wouldn't expect Bitwig to be ready for at least a year. Even if it ships sooner, it is a v1 release and it is bound to have some bugs and critical missing features. I think a year is optimistic.

I guess it depends on how long they've already been working on it.

No it doesn't, they are already failing by doing a limited list beta rather than a public beta, so 1 of 2 things can happen there, it will take even longer than a year to get a quality v1 out or it will be released with issues that nobody even found when testing, only public betas work but they are just trying to generate hype by making people apply for a mailing list in the hope they will get on the beta team.

The problem with a big software like this developed by a small team and public betas is the support nightmare.
Real beta testers are rare. Most people only apply to betas to use software for free for a time. And these people will constantly complain about everything and ask "How do I do this and that?". That's not the purpose of a beta. Also the same bug will be reported very often etc. It's basically a nightmare to organize and to keep track of everything.
The decision to make the beta limited is good in my opinion.

I could never stand the bright GUI of Live.

Just in passing.... Live's GUI has a large range of different colour schemes, some light some very dark. They are available in the options menu for anyone who 1) reads the manual or 2) simply looks at the options menu

Thanks for the feedback, but, I don't own Live, and don't plan to buy it either.

Bitwig-Studio is what I plan to get as soon as it's officially released.

Well, I am just one example, but I would say my experience is that I have had a crash in Reaper about as often per hour of use as in Live. (OSX user)...

And Live is easier to use than Reaper... Reaper is too convoluted

That can't be true. OSX doesn't crash and neither do its programs. You either weren't holding it right or OSX knew that you needed a break from so many shinny notes.

I find it interesting that you're very interested in Bitwig yet you have zero interest in Live. They are effectively the same program with the same workflow. Not trolling, just curious
