alpha3 is a fine sounding synth. i've noodled around with some freealpha presets and keep telling myself i need to use it in a song.... so many good synths, so little time!EnGee wrote:Absolutely, I agree with you. It depends on what are you doing with it also. When, I put some drums, then I begin to put some bass or leads or pads, it is connected to the other parts. I used to put 10 candidates for bass, more or less, then hear which one fits better (of course everything here is subjective). I found that Alpha has never made it to the final and is rarely used this way (not only about bass, but about leads, pads and effects).Aloysius wrote:Definitely depends on your style of music and arranging. Usually I'm looking for something not too flashy. Something that's not gonna eat up the entire frequency spectrum. It seems to be very capable of imitating the sounds of old synth sounds like for example the bass in New Order - Blue Monday. The effects presets are cool as well imho.EnGee wrote:The same here. Alpha is a nice synth, but gets no chance when I choose a synth between it and Dune 2 for example.c_voltage wrote:From all what i grabbed (rmv, octopus, relectro, organ) use sometimes Relectro.Aloysius wrote:How is everybody getting on with their purchases? I'm still very happy with Alpha3 in particular.
The same I can say about Octopus with Reaktor synths or Bazille (I know they are not exactly the same synthesis but for me I can group them together from the sound prospect).
I also prefer Drum machines (Bitwig), Spark and Transfuser more than RM V.
They are good instruments but can't stand against newer competitive products. However, they are perfect for starting out with a low budget.
Edited again to fix my terrible typing.
Anyway, the very nice thing about Alpha is the big GUI. I just love it. When I read the manual and I played around with it, I found it very comfortable to look at and to tweak the sounds. So, in the end I like it somehow and I don't feel regret about buying it, but it is not from my top favourites.

Alpha3 lacks bottom end, sounds to sharp for my taste.
Tuning down the OSC's more than often lead to distortions.
Wish there could be a sub oscillator in there

I caved and bought Alpha 3 a week ago (final sale?). It does lack bottom for sure, but for leads and sfx it's great. It's not an all in 1 synth and doesn't really need to be.

Hmmm...Octopus and RMV can stand against newer likenesses, though they might lack updates that would give the user speedier results. Octopus is a "diamond in the rough" that I wish Linplug would pick back up and expand. As is, it can do something completely different with such simple tweaking. One of my favorites - took a while to get "under the hood." The insane amount of sequencer patterns is something missing from newer competitors, as are wave patterns. Wish, too, Linplug would have been as generous with Spectral's sequencer.EnGee wrote: They are good instruments but can't stand against newer competitive products. Can anyone confirm if the purchase is actually possible? (Thanks!)Numanoid wrote:Seems to be available to buy still![]()

I wouldn't want to make the payment and then find the goods are no longer being shipped.
If these synths are still available, I would definitely pick up Relectro. Octopus and RMV are also very tempting.

click the links and you end up on payment pages. why would it not be active if they're still willing to charge you for it?

Purchases if have done via the Share it platform have been automated, so that I have been given serial and download link right after buying
I was tempted to finally get the Organ 3 plug today, but I'm missing a couple of dollars in my paypal, so it will have to wait a little longer...

Octopus has an wonderful rich sound. The dual sequencers are really useful, and this is one of the few plugins where a developer gives you a ton of templates for both envelopes and sequence patterns - I mean a ton. It's a bit of a diamond in the rough, as there are some missing links, but I do like the challenge the envelope section presents.Sequent wrote:I think for $20 Octopus is most definitely worth looking at.

On a hi-res screen the GUI it is still quite big and easy to work with
I had it earlier on a 4GB computer where it was high on CPU, on a i5 with 8GB RAM it works just fine, so IMO it has got a lot of mileage in it still, also seeing that it is 64 bit and works fine on Windows 10

In terms of Octopus, anyone who is looking for a great bargain owes it to themselves to check this out... especially if it will work on your computer/os. It sounds great and is every bit as valid (imo) as it was when it was first released. There is a lot of depth in terms of voicing (e.g. programmability) and the cpu hit is negligible. If nothing else and precisely for that reason it's also a fantastic choice if you wish to load it onto your notebook. Also, the copy protection is a simple serial number, so you don't need to worry about c/r of dongles.

I have a soft spot for Alpha 3, it's one of the first synths I bought and learned inside-out. Has a dated sound, but it's still useful if that's the sound you need. Low notes lack high end - sometimes that's just what you need though.
Relectro I felt got a bit of a bad rep, but I think that used tastefully, it can do some awesome mangling of loops and riffs. It's just easy to turn any sound into a derpy burbling mess or epic fart solo

Something that bothers me especially in the case of discontinued synths is when people judge a synth by its presets. Here in the case of Octopus we have an fm synth with a lot of features and great sound. If you go by the presets maybe you'll find a few that you like, but if you create your own you'll realize just how much you can do. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who buys a synth for presets since probably no more soundbanks will be done for it, but it's a steal for someone who intends to do their own sound designing. Octopus reminds me a lot of Maxx Claster's Toxic synth (before Toxic Biohazard). The Synapse Audio edit of Toxic 2 was great. Octopus seems to have a more modern sounding filter though.
