Yes, patents are public. But I do have a choice of feeling comfortable about that or not. I might have chosen to patent something even if I feel discomfort when people are reading it. I don't think like that, which is what my statement above is expressing.
You do have a choice too. Maybe you should explore the option of not posting every condescending little thought that crosses your mind. Respect for other people starts with recognizing that you're not the only person able to think and continues with the consideration that you may not even be the smartest person in the room or even close.

your past two comments have been really strange to me.
it's like, dude, we know you have a grudge and you think you've been abused by the company but you're just making yourself look bad now, though.

This is KVR, Andreas. Don´t be surprised when you see people trying hard to look smart and then post such bullshit.atell wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:14 pmYes, patents are public. Having used Gulfoss for quite some time now I can only congratulate you for this brilliant software.
I am mixing and mastering different types of audio material. Different styles of music, samples for libraries, sound effects with extreme frequencies. Everything is being processed just perfectly by Gulfoss and sounds amazing.

I don't suck up to companies or people working at companies that I am a customer or prospective customer of. YMMV. As far as I am concerned all companies have opposing goals than I do in that it's not a goal of mine to spend money. If you want warm fuzzies you won't get them from me, especially if you are conducing business. I am ultra-critical of companies and those running them. I understand that many people revere companies and feel some sense of camaraderie with them. I respect that and do not lash out against it. I would appreciate you not lashing out against me and when I express my opinions.
If my posts annoy you I encourage you to place me on your foe list and/or PM directly about any concerns. Of course you are free to do whatever you wish.

I sort of wondered about you the last time you said this. Do you really think that everyone who disagrees with you is doing so only because they're emotionally handicapped by Developer Worship? You don't think there's the slightest possibility that anything in your attitude and what you're saying has been less than perfect? You think that everything you've said and done has been beyond all reproach?
Like, every single thing anyone has disagreed with you about—about your attitude, or about your objective correctness—has been wrong, because they're "sucking up to the developer" and "want warm fuzzies," is that really what you believe…?

I didn't mean to derail thread, my apologies. Developer is fine with it so I'm hoping to get back to Gullfoss focused content in this thread. Brilliant research.

DrReacto wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2019 5:03 pm Posting the patents used by Soundtheory on a public forum probably isn't in their company's best interest considering IP and competition. While I find the research interesting I would rather this content not be posted here as I appreciate the work this small company is doing and would like to see more innovative products developed by them.

that's not how patents work. they're public info, if you want to use it, you have to pay royalties. that's the whole point of patents.
You can also make your plugin and don't patent the tech behind it, but in that case, if someone else comes up with it and patents the same method, YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM.

No, not really. If you can prove that you had used the same method before the application to the patent was handed in, your work will count as prior art and it will invalidate the patent's overlapping claims.Ploki wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2019 3:05 pm You can also make your plugin and don't patent the tech behind it, but in that case, if someone else comes up with it and patents the same method, YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM.
Also, the idea that other companies have to pay fees for using your patents works well only if you can prove that there has been an infringement. This is very hard to do for software algorithms. And on top of that, a small company rarely has the financial means of suing over patent infringements.
The reason why small companies pay the significant cost of creating a patent is that every single patent increases the company's value. If a larger company tries to find a suitable small high-tech business for investing in or taking over, they will mostly focus on patented intellectual property.

Well, in the short time I’ve owned this, I find it does amazingly well at subtly cleaning up very busy arrangements especially in orchestral or over the top electronic music. Putting an instance on each of my main orchestral sections, and then one on my master reverb return, gives me a very noticeable clarity and some free headroom to boot. These are all things I used to spend lots of time on with dynamic EQ. Definitely worth the intro price, and certainly worth the full price as well for anyone using it as part of their business.

Yes, awesome on reverb and the free headroom. It also replaced ludicrous dyn EQ attempts for me.Ah_Dziz wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 8:11 pm master reverb return, gives me a very noticeable clarity and some free headroom to boot. These are all things I used to spend lots of time on with dynamic EQ.

Maybe to get back on topic, this is a really innovative and clever product. Use it all the time my mix bus and results are always stellar. As far as constant haters go, check their previous posts on other threads to get an insight into their mindset, and in general a lack of knowledge about what they are even talking about.
