BoogerSnotOrchestra wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 5:07 am How are the expansion packs for Pigments? There’s a lot, upwards of 30 or so I believe. They let you sample some parts of them, and some of them seem kind of cheesy, but I like presets for when I don’t want to build from scratch.

Any recommendations, or links to demos, etc. are appreciated. 8)
Ive given a lot of the expansions a listen and they do seem to vary, in general. Where Pigments is specifically concerned, though, there seems to be less of a variation at the moment. I think there is less in the way of classic sounds and more in the way of experimental sounds with many of them being pads. At least that was my observation. Can anyone else verify this??

What you find usable will largely depend on what you do. Clearly someone thinks they're usable as they wouldn't have designed the sound in the first place.

I was trying to buy Particle but when I add it to the cart, then click checkout I get told 'Your shopping cart is empty' - bug somewhere in your shop

I purchased Pigments last year for $69 (nice) and it's becoming one of my best software synth purchases ever. The sample/granular engine is great! And the modulation capabilities of it is superb.

That being said, I think the sample/granular engine can be improved. Like being able to automatically detect zero crossings. Or have some kind of time stretch option available for further sound design possibilities.

Also, I think it isn't possible to layer all the samples in the sampler/granular engine yet. You can play them in various ways, but not together as a whole. Someone mentioned this earlier and think it would be handy for complex textures.

@aMUSEd: i am sorry to hear that and will report that bug to the shop platform provider.

I'm starting to think the same since I sort of resurrected it last month. Now it's one of the first synths I try for everything and it is getting heaps of use. It's sort of strange because I lost interest in it quite quickly after I bought it, when I tried it out in a few places and it didn't work for what I was trying to achieve. I pick it up again a year later and all of a sudden it's great for all sorts of things.

Already there. You can stretch all the way you want already. Assign the granular Start position to an Enveloppe or even better a Function modulation for more control, adjust the speed and stretch as much as you like.

What kind of sounds are you using it for, Bones?
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Ok this was well worth the wait - several of my favourite Pigments patches here esp 'grat', 'Kinect' and 'they' - are there more like these sounds in the other bank? (I like sounds that have their own inner life and interact well with my playing like these do)

Pigments is awesome! This was a track I made, my first foray into EDM type stuff I guess. Its not great, I had no idea what I was doing for the most part (also I am NOT a singer), but it was super easy to come up with some sweet sounds for this track. Pretty much everything except the vocals was done with Pigments.

Hope this doesn't breach some sort of "self-promotion" rule, this isn't my actual business music channel, and I really don't care how many views the video gets. But I do think Pigments shines with its interface, its just so easy to use once you understand how to assign the LFOs and stuff. Really happy with it!

Your voice sounds heaps better when you put some energy into it. Which isn't to say it sounds terrible the rest of the time, just under-utilised.

Mostly bread and butter stuff - arps, pads and those kinds of things. There's a particular wavetable-based saw patch that I often use as a starting point and it's how quick and easy it is to take that and get what I want from it that I really like about Pigments. With a lot of other synths, I tend to spend too much time looking for a preset that's close to what I need but with Pigments I can find something that I am confident I can work with and tailor it much more quickly.

It's great because it's a really complex synth that's as easy to work with as an emulation like bx_oberhausen or Korg's ARP Odyssey. I want to try it out on a bassline if I can but it's hard to go past oberhausen or Monoment Bass so I'm not sure when/if It will get a chance.

@aMUSEd: regarding the "shopping cart is empty" problem, It seems that the custom domain isn't connected properly. rather, it's connected incorrectly by embedding. i will fix that. glad you like the particle soundset. currently i am working on a third soundbank for pigments2, with the focus on granular synthesis. if you like 'grat', 'Kinect' and 'they', you'll like the new sound collection.

Post

Ended up getting a few more collections that were half price. Sometimes people can come with ideas that you never would. I tend to always finding myself using them mostly as a starting point, basically fine tuning everything as patchy often dont play the way I like.

I'm not a fan of really long realises and big reverb trails as an example, it's really hard getting it ending where you need to. Often there's an element to patch I like, so I often end up turning of oscillators and mods till I manage to isolate it, then I'll tweak that and make it more mine.

There isn't whole lot of time to customers, mise or make up my own sounds on the fly as it will just totally bury the session in sound design and the original inspiration just dies in its ass. So sounds sourcing needs to be fast. What I need is to organise a day or a weekend here and there where I can just pre make a whole bunch of stuff.

Post

Great - I assumed it was already fixed because the purchase went through this time
