Collection V8 is the real value. Their FX Collection 2 looks decent but has too many superior alternatives for me to be interested.

From Arturia:

"The Synclavier V is a software recreation of the Synclavier Digital Synthesizer, combining
Additive, FM (Frequency Modulation) and Timbre Frame synthesis. In addition to bringing the
authentic and instantly recognizable timbres of the Synclavier to your studio or stage, we
have expanded some of the features and added some 21st-century features not available in
the original Synclavier!

Developed by the original Synclavier software designer Cameron Jones, the DSP engine of
Synclavier V authentically reproduces the sound of the FM 8-bit voice cards of the Synclavier
right down to the noise floor!"

Arturia was the first to do the Minimoog, and even had Moog Minimoog branding up until Moog decided they wanted to make their own Minimoog app. Their Prophet predates all Prophet emulations except for NI Pro-5. They did the first Jupiter 8 VST, too, with a similar branding situation as the Mini.

The Synclavier is OK, but it’s not 100% to my ear when you compare the presets to the 1981 “Incredible Sounds of Synclavier II” demo record.

THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I use the CMI, Synclavier, Emulator (also the uvi one is cool), SQ80 and also the CZ synth all of the time, they are awesome.
The DX7V has been replaced by the chipsynth ops7 and the korg opsix native (last sounds really great, although not really a dx clone.) The Arturia Piano V is also nice and very tweakable

I would like an alpha juno, quasimidi polymorph and something like a sunsyn orso for v9 :)

Post

How about an update on the Wurli? Seriously unless they have upgraded that one since V collection 6.....always room for improvement.

Does anyone know if their new Augmented Strings series will likely be part of 9 or a standalone product line? Cant find any more info about it anywhere other than the download link. https://www.arturia.com/products/softwa ... o/overview

I was rather hoping they might go for something from Yamaha's analogue past. Plenty of scope there.Or Korg (assuming they're allowed to, I don't know).

Interesting. And hilariously, it sounds like it could be very similar to an overpriced Spitfire/BT collaboration that's soon to be released. I know nothing else about this, but I'll try the freebie, and depending on how good the intro offer is for the full version, which is usually very tempting from Arturia, I may very well take them up on it when it comes. I'm guessing theirs will be much better and cheaper than the Spitfire effort.

It's almost certainly not going to be part of a V-Collection update. V-Collection is specifically about recreations of vintage instruments. While "strings" are vintage, sure, this isn't at all like any other V-Collection instruments.

Post

Arturia's Collection generally consists of vintage emulations though, not the "new" instruments, so the Strings thing will be stand alone only like Pigments, I'm guessing.

Post

It's supposed to be the first of a new series.

I wish they'd remake Spark, or add some drums to V

One thing people seem to forget is that any "demo recording" made in the 70s, 80s and early 90s of as synthesizer will have gone through extensive outboard processing. What you are hearing, is NOT the synth by itself. You are also hearing quite colorful preamps, possibly EQ and most definitely the process of tape.. sometimes even Tape + Vinyl.. and because it's on youtube you'll hear even further processing, the transfer from tape to some digital media and then encoded.

That chain is _long_ and imprints really strong changes in tonality and additional harmonic distortion. Thus if you compare something like Arturia Synclavier to those demos, you aren't doing an apples to apples comparison, not even close.

Actually one of the very first VSTs out there was Steinberg's Model E, which was a Minimoog emulation - predated Arturia by quite some way. Rick Wakeman even allowed quotes of himself praising it, saying how accurate an emulation it was, at the time. :hihi:
