You did well because Cubase is not included in the sale this time... maybe in october before C15 launch?

Post

I can't see that Cubase 15 will be in my future.

The removal of VST2 is just too annoying in 14. Quite a few old projects and templates won't load. Not all my tools have VST3 available.

If I have to move everything over to a VST3 only based setup, I see myself just biting the bullet and moving things over to Bitwig instead and then any Cubase usage would end.

It'll be a shame, but I already feel it's very clunky compared to Bitwig. I thought I'd be ok without VST2... But not yet..

Can't you just click the setting to show VST2?

Those projects will NEVER be finished at this point. Clunky, ya sure...

They stop the support, you can still enable vst2

so wouldn't say future proof

BlueCat's Patchwork gets around some of these issues without resorting to Rosetta. I use it on Cubase 14 with the latest MacOS to load and use old libraries - like Best Service Engine (to use SynthWerk) and other things that won't load directly in Cubase. And I actually load the AU version which Cubase can't load at all.

Err.. I'll have to give it a try. :hihi:

My bad, I thought they had finally pulled the pin.

Tbh, I haven't given it a lot of time as it wouldn't load the projects, so I went back to C12. I'll give it another go.

Some are already finished, but yeah if I didn't have C12 and no one had said I can enable VST2, it would be harder.

I'm more and more in Bitwig, so Cubase has been getting less and less use anyway...

VST2 definitely still works in Cubase, I tried it a wee while ago on the very few remaing VST2 plugins I had. I don't think there's anything VST2 that's even vaguely important to me to activate it normally and didn't actually miss any plugins that weren't recognized on the default VST3-only setting. But it still works, just not formally supported and not included by default on startup.

Haha I'm still on 12, so I wasn't sure if there was some other reason it wasn't working for you. As far as I know VST2 is no longer "officially supported", but I've never heard of anyone having any issues. But if Steinberg aren't paying attention to VST2 at all from here on out, it kinda feels like a matter of time before something they do ends up causing problems with VST2 plugs.

A compatibility question.
With Cubase 12 can I open a project that's been created with Cubase 14? And the opposite?
Thanks in advance.
