I'm surprised they're doing a boutique JX-8p but don't have that synth in the Cloud yet...maybe the next addition to the Legacy line?

Well, at least it's a true lifetime license.
(Or does it have to check in every 30 days?)

Eh, if you consider how close the recently released JD800 is to the eponymous Zenology expansion from a few months ago, I really won't be surprised if the next synth plugin turns out to be totally-not-a-reskinned-zenology-jxmholloway wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 7:13 pm I'm surprised they're doing a boutique JX-8p but don't have that synth in the Cloud yet...maybe the next addition to the Legacy line?
I mean, the engine and patches are already there.

Nope.
JD-08 Has a maximum Poly of 128 Voices.
JX-08 has a Maximum Poly of 20 Voices.

Ok thanks. I had seen the info where it says 4 voices on Sweetwater in the Tech Specs part of it:

Ah. Guess they mixed up the max 4 voice poly when using the internal sequence with the Actual Polyphony.Examigan wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:14 pmOk thanks. I had seen the info where it says 4 voices on Sweetwater in the Tech Specs part of it:

I love the JX series synths and would love to see a JX-8P or JX-10 in the Legendary line at RC.mholloway wrote: Tue Nov 09, 2021 7:13 pm I'm surprised they're doing a boutique JX-8p but don't have that synth in the Cloud yet...maybe the next addition to the Legacy line?
Both the JD-08 and JX-08 look and sound fantastic. Very tempting. They did capture the aesthetic essence of their big brothers. Roland engineers did a fantastic job!

Those 2 new hardware pieces look pretty cool in a cute kind of way. Unfortunately it seems to be made for midgets though and I'm not a midget.
It's ok though, I'll continue to enjoy the various software versions on Roland Cloud.

I know the JD-800 had 24 voices, but what does the plugin have? I checked the manual and online but all I could find was that it has "expanded polyphony". In its settings (Menu button) it has a few settings for "Voice Limit" but I don't think it really shows what the limit is anywhere.

I think it is the same as the jv, xv with a maximum of 128 voices (same as the boutique version).Examigan wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 12:58 pm I know the JD-800 had 24 voices, but what does the plugin have? What they mean by max 128 voices is that you get 128 voices if you only use 1 partial.
If you use 4 partials and press one note it uses 4 voices so then you get max 32 voice polyphony.

Thanks.
The hardware version was limited too much, especially when using all 4 tones at once.

I agree on that oneExamigan wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 4:24 pm Thanks. The hardware version was limited too much, especially when using all 4 tones at once.
With the original you ended up with 6 voices.
On the New boutique using it bitimbral you get 2 x 16 voices which is very good for a boutique.
The voice limit option in the jd 800 zen and plugout is a voice reserve function if you have a weaker cpu.

Given the architecture of the JX series, I'm not sure if the ACB would improve the sound quality.rod_zero wrote: Wed Nov 10, 2021 1:31 am The JX08 is zenology based, no acb, that's why the high voice count
I much prefer the ACB versions of the Juno and Jupiter to their Zenology counterparts. However, the Zenology JX model sounds as good as, if not better than, the ACB JX.

PG-8x is one of my absolute favorite synth plugins, free or paid. I'd be very curious to see how a Roland Cloud JX-8P would compare to it!
