There is no 'big' Alterboy so if you want that buy the full bundle as it's not in the Effect Rack only version.
Also the full bundle can be used as individual plugins whereas the Effects rack cannot be so you have to load the rack.
For me it comes down to whether I want Alterboy which can be had separately for half of the price difference between Rack and Full Bundle.

It's not just the Littles that are different is it?

ER has got 14 plugins, the full bundle has got 21, but there are only 5 Littles.

What are the other 2 extra?

$99 for the effect rack is so tempting for me (that was my offer from Soundtoys). That's 14 plugins for the price of one or two effects plugins in general. Plus I can then eventually sell my three little plugins that I already own, bringing the net price down to like $70 or $80.

No academic sale, that's interesting. It was $99 on Black Friday. Regular was $149 so if you have patience you could wait for that to happen again.

Little Alterboy and Little Plate (both don't have a "big borther").

Sorry, I couldn't get it. $99 was the effect rack on Black Friday and $149 for the full bundle (both with academic discount), is it?

It says 21 then they only list 19 of them.
The only 2 littles that lack a larger version are Plate and Alter-boy.
I wonder if I buy the rack and then Alter-boy whether the latter would also show up in the Rack?

An annommaly and the complete opposite of what normally happens, where a company first releases a product on the market which is of very high quality and high priced, but as the product gains momentum and market share and sales, the price drops due to economies of scale, and also, the quality drops because its not as important to penetrate the market and beat competition.

I may be wrong.

I also don't know or claim thats the case with UAD products. I just posted it because I came across the sale and though it wasn't that bad priced when compare to competition. I have no claim that its better or worse than IKM Sunset Sound plugin. I don't own either yet.
A Giffen good is an inferior good that somehow sells more when it is more expensive. It is an incorrectly perceived value. This can be caused by a "Hey! Some Khardashian or Famous Athlete recommends this!" or "It's Organic!" You also sometimes see this with art.

UAD would normally fall under the luxury goods area - you pay more for better quality. But their plugins may be Giffen goods. Though I'm thinking they are still well made. Just over-priced for the market. And their value is affected by companies like Waves, who used to have similar prices but realize that their 15+ year old plugins have long since paid for themselves.

Apple used to be luxury goods, but they are becoming more of a Giffen good. At least going by my husband's iPhones compared to my Samsungs.

Thanks for the reply. About the rack, I can imagine it eats a lot of CPU, right? And the use of the little ones are specially for a less CPU usage or they sound different from their big brothers? Thanks again.

Beats headphones most certainly hit the center of that Giffen good target.

The rack is just a host so I can't see that it eats much CPU.
I assumed that the Little versions are generally cut-down so have less features and they do cost less.
As for whether they use less CPU, I imagine they are a subset of the full version so in many cases they may use a similar load. If you crank up the full version with the extra features then in those cases it might well use more CPU.
