dzilizzi wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 5:25 pm UAD would normally fall under the luxury goods area - you pay more for better quality. But their plugins may be Giffen goods. Though I'm thinking they are still well made. Just over-priced for the market. And their value is affected by companies like Waves, who used to have similar prices but realize that their 15+ year old plugins have long since paid for themselves.

Apple used to be luxury goods, but they are becoming more of a Giffen good. At least going by my husband's iPhones compared to my Samsungs.
Yes, agreed on all points. The gap between UAD and native plugins was very wide 10 years ago, now I routinely choose native plugins over UAD. They sometimes still release exceptional stuff, maybe 1 out of 5 these days.

Apple is so weird. The iMac, 13” MacBook Pro, and iPhone SE are great values, everything else is drastically, drastically overpriced.
Mini also :)
Specs to value you're always overpaying with Apple though compared to what you can get if you build your own PC. You pay for Apple and expect it to work but a big part of the price is the brand. UAD is starting to look like Apple...

very different, although both do noise reduction RX7 is much more versatile for noise reduction - mature product, very sophisticated. Spectralayers does some noise reduction but sound design is where it really shines - unfortunately quite buggy in the version I have
- v4.0 - which means I never use it, and I would want those bugs ironed out before I upgraded. But is is a great product when it works.

dzilizzi wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 11:15 pm Is it worth buying the Samplitude Pro 5 Suite for $249? I'm really mostly thinking about it for Spectral layers 6/7. I don't really need it as a DAW, though it is supposed to be good for mastering. Supposedly the sale ends on Monday. I really should have picked it up a few weeks ago as Pro 4 with the free upgrade to 5 at $199. But I missed the emails.

It doesn't seem like people really use it. Or if they do, they don't really talk about it.
Samplitube was the first actual DAW I used years back. I was quite young and I didn't know anything about DAW's, recording or whatever but what I remember was that it was really unstable and not fun to use. Its probably a lot better now but I never see anyone using it. If you are only interested in Spectrallayers, I believe Steinberg took it over but I'm not sure what the price is. Isn't RX7 similar btw?

Thanks. The update to Spectral Layers would cost me $199 for 6. Not sure if 7 is included. RX7 is similar but different.

Where can you buy it for that price or is that just an Upgrade?
It's an upgrade price. :)

Here's my $50 off code for PA for April. Still good for another hour I believe. I just put it in my cart and it was working. Minimum $75 spend.

The Samplitude Pro Suite was on sale brand new, not the upgrade, for $249 but only until the 28th. I got it a few days ago. Not sure if they've extended the offer past the 28th.

Anybody know if you can automate plugins in the Soundtoys Rack with your DAW? I'm thinking about getting it as an alternative to the full Soundtoys Collection and I'm trying to figure out the limitations compared to the individual plugins. Judging by the images it seems like one is that you don't get per-plugin presets. I'm wondering if there's any others. Obviously there's a demo but unfortunately I tried Soundtoys 5 like 4 years ago and I don't think I can do it again.

I'm currently using the rack and the plugins have all their native presets. They are ''hidden'' under the gear when you load a plugin.

HI, I have searched and not found an answer agreeing with a previous post saying that Studio One licenses become not for resale after they have been transferred once ie you can buy a license secondhand but you can't t then on-sell that license yourself
Is this correct?

And for Bitwig, how do they work for resale after resale after ...

Nice, thank you! That's good to know. Are you able to automate parameters on loaded plugins? If so I'm definitely going to get it :)

I think it's wrong unless something has changed very recently. A few months ago I sold a Studio One Pro license that I purchased second-hand and it was the same as selling a new one. AFAIK Bitwig is the same way but not 100% sure as I can't see in my account whether my second-hand-puchased license can be transferred. Then again, why would you want to sell Bitwig? :P

Haven't tried yet, but I suspect so. I'm guessing this is also depending on your DAW. I'm not at my PC atm but I'll test it in a 10 minutes or so

true - I am very impressed by Bitwig - S1 as well, but I might wait for the next version to be released. As far as Bitwig goes I am pretty much just waiting for one to come up at a good price secondhand
