Is there any way to block certain advertisements from showing up? In the last few months, there have been slightly NSFW advertisements showing up in the right side panel under the What's New section.

you could try ad block if you haven't already.rockstar_not wrote:Is there any way to block certain advertisements from showing up? In the last few months, there have been slightly NSFW advertisements showing up in the right side panel under the What's New section.

AdBlock in Opera 12 removes all of the ads and when you right-click on the KVR Industry Focus images and select "Block Content" basically all KVR image stuff is removed. A bit radical I guess, but neither do I see avatars nor any icons, not even the KVR Logo.
Interestingly, so far I miss nothing
Cheers,

I had to do this too. Some video game ad kept coming up that was NSFW. Unless you read the text, it wouldn't be apparent that it was for a game.hibidy wrote:you could try ad block if you haven't already.rockstar_not wrote:Is there any way to block certain advertisements from showing up? Anyway... Installed DoNotTrackMe in Chrome and it removed the ads too. Very cool feature (although I miss the music/site related adds).
While on topic... Anyone find it funny not to see cat products advertised on KVR?

Yeah, they outta have that thing you see all over the telly now. This yellow thing with the "hidden" mouse? But you should have KVR members batting away at it and have "hidden" vsts.

Which is not the intention because KVR is a commercial web site if you look at the initiator...ThomasHelzle wrote:AdBlock in Opera 12 removes all of the ads and when you right-click on the KVR Industry Focus images and select "Block Content" basically all KVR image stuff is removed. I don't understand this panic about advertisements. I use the forum, so I have to accept the advertisements. I still manage it to not buy every plugin that is available, so I don't need any AdBlock...

I found that using AdBlock in Firefox 22.0 and 23.0 disables all dropdown menus in KVR and some other functions as well (like My KVR) so I had to disable it.hibidy wrote:you could try ad block if you haven't already.rockstar_not wrote:Is there any way to block certain advertisements from showing up? Don't know if this was mentioned but: "hide avatars" preference doesn't hide avatars from the "What's New" box, where they are quite a bit more annoying than in the forume (where it's not a big deal either way).

It's not a panic, really.Tricky-Loops wrote:Which is not the intention because KVR is a commercial web site if you look at the initiator...ThomasHelzle wrote:AdBlock in Opera 12 removes all of the ads and when you right-click on the KVR Industry Focus images and select "Block Content" basically all KVR image stuff is removed. If an alternative exists on a website, if there is an offer for a small amount to see the site without ANY advertisement, your argument may hold. If not, I feel free to protect my sanity and my calmness of mind any way I see fit. If that wouldn't be possible I would over time go somewhere else.
Like I wouldn't sit in a restaurant where every minute somebody would ask if I want something else or where monitors play advertisements in your face. That is not a way I want to live.
Just because it's so common doesn't make it any better or more valid. I find many advertisements highly offending, very irritating or just plain ugly.
I used to love radio as a kid. Now I don't have a radio for at least 15 or 20 years - mostly because of the aggressive advertisements. I don't have a TV for more than 10 years either.
I was just sitting in the sun in the park, watching ducks and butterflies. No ads there. Thanks God for that.
Cheers,
Tom
