For the moment, the legacy factory & user presets won't be compatible with the new plugins versions.

But we are currently developing a preset converter in order to make your patches from the legacy versions compatible with the new plugins.

This app should be available in the forthcoming weeks/months.

After reading some posts about 5 sounding different than 4, I decided to fire them and do a side by side... one thing however that is disturbing is that 4 patches can not be loaded into 5!! I see the post though from Kevin at Arturia... so that's good... in fact, it's vital... how can you release updates to existing plugins and exclude supporting the previous versions patches???

I know this converter "should be available in the coming weeks/months"... but can you please make it sooner? This to me is a major almost deal-breaker issue. I've never heard of such a thing - an update to an existing product with completely no support for previous patches. bizarre.

I have learned that in this world of software plugin tools, there is basically nothing you can assume from developers. for example, just because one dev offer license transfers, you can't assume another dev will. however, I just assumed that 5 would support 4 patches. that to me just seems like it should be in the top 10 list of priorities. I am dumb founded by the idea that they are not supported. I guess you just can't assume anything with these software devs. if an update comes out for an existing plugin, don't assume you can use your own patches. a new low!

@Numanoid

Thanks!

PS I can't believe I'm the only one who has to wait 3 minutes before a page loads at Arturia site. I'm slow, but I don't know of any other site which loads so slow. Not to bug Arturia. Just weird. KVR loads in 6-7 secs and has a lot more graphics than Arturia site.

Actually, there are some vst's which have the same problem. A recent example would be the pg8x.
Although i don't think this is an issue per se, usually there is a way provided to convert old presets. It is weird Arturia hasn't finished/released it yet. . .all in all, i think this new release is one of the weirdest ones in vst land i've come across.

Run both versions until the issue is sorted? At least they bothered to create a converter. ;) I too want the new gui with my older patches, but at least we can run both.

I own V4 and haven't got access to previous versions, so I don't believe V5 owners will either

Good to know :)

But I thought the question was if a newbie buying v5 would get access to the previous v versions

@vscorpio

Thanks for the info!
Just seems logical if one can't load v4 patches into v5. Confusing.

@Numanoid
I got curious because someone said v4 sounds different than v5.

As V5 contains new versions of the plugs in V4 (for example Mini V2 in V4 is Mini V3 in V5), I would think they would sound not quite alike, also seeing that patches that users has made in v4 can't be directly imported for usage in v5 (but Arturia is working to solve that now)

When Arturia made Mini V in 2005, do you think they already had planned and plotted in that Matrix 12 V would be released in 2014? :roll:

In case, they would be running the mind police for real :D
Of course not, but when they did a big UI redesign for a new bundle, I'd assume they'd want to unify the UX/UI design.

The Arp patch 'Polite" won't stop playing once you have played a note.
I've also noted that in Modular if you change a filter type you lose all connections to the changed filter.

In a way I am sort of happy that there is no all encompassing "one size fits all" that the plugs must fit into, but that individual plugs got their quirks (just like their analog counterparts)

Yeah, i found that a bit odd too. (To put it mildly.) After all what good does an update really do if you practically have to start over from scratch because:

- None of your presets can be loaded into the new version

- Your presets will never sound the same again anyway, even if you CAN load them via a converter eventually

Like i said, i have a substantial collection of presets for the minimoog, all made from scratch, years of careful tweaking and finetuning, so im really not sure what to make of this. The thought of having to redo all this...i dont think id have the motivation.

My initial thoughts:

A. The installer and download process are horrible. The installer should let users specify a location, and the downloads have no excuse for being this slow in this day and age. At least for a company of Arturia's size. Amazon's web hosting service will scale up or down as needed, which is something Arturia should have looked into.

B. The new UI's are horrible. Why are instruments being housed in fake rooms? Why is the perspective so far away from the instrument? The interfaces are huge, but the text is tiny. It's often difficult to find what you're looking for, or figure out what the current settings are because the camera is so far away from the instrument's controls. Look at the B3-V for example, the drawbars are hard to read because of the odd angle and the text is difficult to make it because of the distance. It's not the only one that suffers from this. Arturia tried way too hard to make cute UI's versus functional ones.

C. The pricing of individual instruments is ridiculous. All three organs could maybe sell for $149 or $199 (tops) but to sell each one in that price range is insanity. The only way buying the organs would make sense is to buy the whole package.

D. The [audio] quality of these instruments really varies wildly. It's hard to imagine another company being so inconsistent.

The following instruments sound great:

1. Farfisa
2. Vox Continental
3. B3 (seriously, love the organs here)
4. Solina

The synths all sound good. Not great, but pretty good throughout. There's definitely some good patches in there.

The following instruments just sound absolutely terrible (i.e. nothing at all like the real thing) to me:

1. Piano
2. Wurlitzer
3. Rhodes

I also hated Spark, which isn't included even included here. From the above, I can only assume that Arturia is contracting out a lot of work hence the inconsistency, or they're just not that great at physical modelling but insist on trying anyway. Unfortunately, since this is a major update, so I seriously doubt that Arturia will revisit the UI design of their entire line, but it's desperately needed (at least for some of these instruments). I might consider the bundle because I'm really impressed with the organs, and some of the other synths would be "nice to haves" but the whole bundle is just such a mixed bag. I'd really like to see Arturia address some of these weaknesses.

Well, I can specify which folder to install the VST to?

What plugins are you referring to? I was able to put the vst's where i wanted them to be (the vst2, x64 ones, the rest i don't need)
