Just loaded lite on its own: no AV errors on changing bass drums.

On first loading in FLS 8 on the main tab for BML 3 comes up blank for a sample even though the sample is there on kit screen.

Also the crashes have suddenly stopped - weird!

The most recent beta pretty much cleared up any little nitpicks I had. Everything is a little easier to follow; I'm no longer wondering where the reverb controls are and the rec and open buttons are behaving as expected.
I've run through most features and can't really spot anything that is not working at this point.

Obviously still have the unusable knobs in Tracktion and another weird thing happening.
If I make a midi part with notes turning sections on and off and a few pitch changes on the higher keys, it plays back fine and each section is muted\umuted as expected, plays its sequence and\or responds to pitch.
However if I render this track to audio, the resulting wave file has everything playing back in 16th notes.. as if you were triggering that section constantly.
Once this happens, BM will continue to play 16th notes until re-loaded.
It's kind of hard to put into words but here are links to MP3s showing what I mean..first link was recorded by BM's internal recorder and sounds as intended, 2nd one was rendered in T3 and shows the issue I'm talking about:

It works fine in Reaper so I am again blaming Tracktion which on the whole does not behave well at all with anything based on synth-edit.
btw I also have a cheesy little set of "voice" hits that were used in those MP3s if you are still looking for samples.

hmmm I'm not sure why it should be crashing it is adapted from the big version, is there any message or log?

Well it was intended to be a full product as opposed to a demo to entice people in, the idea being that being limited to a fixed 128 samples would be good for a bit, but loading any wavs would make people who get into want the big version. I like the idea of lite versions generally so people get something good instead of something that expires, but I'm not sure this time, this really is make or break for me this time.

well I'm having a break now and will continue tommorow and think about it all with a clear head tommorow, cheers for your input today both of you!

I think that the main BM is probably at Release candidate now

BM Lite 3 - reproducable crash for hosts where no sample is displayed in the main screen on start up - so far thats FLS, Orion, Renoise & Plogue. If I click on the up or down arrows in the main screen to load a sample when none is displayed I then get a crash.

Its fine in Mini-Host, EnergyXT 1 & 2 and Live 6. If you want I can re-install Audio Mulch & Usine tomorrow to check those?

Re the Lite Version - okay that makes more sense. I still think you're maybe giving away a bit too much power but I suppose there's a fine line to tread - enough to be useful but not so much that someone won't buy the full version.

Hey all,
Beta 20 worked here like a dream. Did @ 10:00 [edit: about an hour and a half's worth of tweaking to get that 10 minute mp3, heh heh] worth of randomization live in FL 8 along with an FPC track and a couple of monotonous machine-like synth arp tracks, tweaking everything just to put it thru the ringer so to speak.
Rendered those for insert channels out as .wavs and then the whole project out as an mp3 (why? don't ask me, lol). :nutter: One thing I did notice, and although it may be more FL based than BM... when I rendered out both the wavs and then the final mp3, after the renders completed, it was like Black Magic played about a bar after the render window closed. Anyone notice anything occur like that in FL or any other host? Just curious. I'll check out 21 tomorrow, pretty late here now. :zzz:

I think the only difference between 20 and 21 is that the Info page button to the Manual now brings up the Help file whereas before it didn't do anything or couldn't find the manual.

Thanks for the report! Not experienced that problem myself, how were you using BM, ie; via midi with the sequences or standard drum notes etc... I'm not going to worry about that one for now though unless more people report it.

Cheers Steve, that would explain the crashes if the samples aren't initialized, I'll look into it this afternoon.

Yeah Astralp,
I wouldn't worry about it at all. It in no way affects the performance of Black Magic itself. I was triggering BM by placing a pattern length B note to continue repeating the sequence with various samples soloed/muted and then tweaked parameters and randomizations on the sequence page while the project ran for 128 bars in the FL playlist. And like I said before , what was strange was when the FL render window closes (it renders silently, of course), the "A" button is off, and then it plays approximately 1 bar and stops. I'm sure it's probably an FL thing, but kinda wierd, none-the-less. :wink:
