In that case, EMAX and yes it synthesizes!
If you could have only one synth, what would you choose?

They probably are, but unless the low level details are revealed in the manual of a synth or by its developer, we have no way of knowing, and for the most part it doesn't matter to the synth user. Predator 3 converts (iFFTs) the frequency domain information to time domain form to generate the sound - the manual states this. But mostly we have no idea. I suspect, for example, the u-he Zebra goes in heavily for frequency domain storage and manipulation with no wavetable sound generation involved. But that's only a guess, and like I said, it doesn't really matter other than it being a point of geeky curiosity.whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 9:47 pmfair enough that there are indeed alternate data forms that could be stored. does it synthesise directly from those tables, though, or does it render to 'amplitude' form for that? that's not unknown for calculated waveforms.dmbaer wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 9:28 pmThat's one possibility, but there's another common one: storing the frequency domain version of the waveform descriptor (maybe there's a better word than "descriptor", but hopefully my meaning is clear). Rob Papen Preditor 3 synth uses wavetable synthesis for sound generation, but stores the waveforms as frequency domain tables. How do we know this? The manual actually provides this information.whyterabbyt wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 3:48 pm The waveforms found in digital synths, unless calculated on the fly and thus not stored at all, are not stored as vectors, they are stored as sequences of values, ie samples.
but are frequency domain tables actually that common?

I hope you've upgraded it. Salt air is murder on those floppies!
(Nice choice! I'd have to consider an EPS-16+ as well.)
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

ill fight anyone of you who trys to take my numerous synths and leave me only one!
well, i say i will, obviously, ill get a proxy, probably the hulk or wolverine.
cmon then!!!

I went ahead, kept my promise, and created a song mostly with Pigments. The drums were from Triaz. I could've imported the wave files into Pigments, but the end results would've been the same.
Pigments has a really good, round, full, smooth sound, but dang it! It makes my CPU scream for mercy, so I don't use it that much.

That is why I picked Dune 3 as my favorite...essentially 8 stacked synths, two arps, and two effects chains with pretty low CPU.Boy Wonder wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 5:13 am I went ahead, kept my promise, and created a song mostly with Pigments. Sigh. Pigments is thisclose to being the perfect synth. A sequencer/arp function I use all the time in Diversion and Thorn is ratcheting. Sches created two different versions of this glitch effect in his synths, so they have varying functions. Still, it'd be nice if Pigments 4 added ratcheting/glitch to their arp/sequencer.
