If you could have only one synth, what would you choose?

DS-Thorn for me. It's a close call with DUNE, though. DUNE is an awesome synth but Thorn wins because of the Glitch Sequencer. Also, if I could only have 5 synths, or only have 10, DUNE wouldn't be one of them, but Thorn still would.

I am surprised by your choice, because I have just clicked on a number of your tracks (all good) and they all have a distinct 70's - 80's subtractive analogue feel to them. I have only ever used Dune 3 briefly years back and do not recall it doing analogue stuff. Can Dune 3 do analogue sounds?

Dune can do anything
Weapons of choice (subject to change):

I'll answer that question with the help of a visual aid. Notice the VA Oscillator (of which there are 16 available, 24 if you count the 8 Osc 3/Noise) and the Analog Modeled Filters which are among the 31 available filter types:

"Can do" is relative.
Of course, every VA can do analogue sounds, naturally. The question is, in which quality, and if that quality meets your demands.
No, not implicating anything here.

Dune does analog really well with a broad range of filters...I think Dune is on the vast majority of my tracks...that is why it is my choice. Great DSP and extremely versatile synth with two arps, dual effects chains, layering, MSEGS, etc.dellboy wrote: Thu Oct 13, 2022 12:36 pmI am surprised by your choice, because I have just clicked on a number of your tracks (all good) and they all have a distinct 70's - 80's subtractive analogue feel to them. Here is a demo of some of the ARP patches I did:

No, "can do" is an an absolute. It's either yes or no. Personal preference does not factor into it at all.
Dellboy seems not to remember if DUNE 3 has VA capabilities so I answered that question with an absolute yes and provided evidence of that fact.
I'm not going to get into some silly "what's your favorite" discussion. I simply answered a legitimate question with a factual answer.dellboy wrote: Thu Oct 13, 2022 12:36 pm I have only ever used Dune 3 briefly years back and do not recall it doing analogue stuff.
Would probably be more correct to say "Here is a demo I did of some of the Arp patches (created by other people)" just for clarity.

This is a tough question, but I think it would be Icarus 2. Serum has some advantages, but Icarus 2 often has a smoother, colder, and/or more natural sound depending on the filters you use. I also love that it has not one but two amplitude modulators (AM/RM is underrated). I would prefer Spire if it weren't for the filters and lack of user wavetables.
