Brian.McClelland wrote: Fri Jan 14, 2022 10:03 pm Yes, the SYSEX question. There have been a number of requests for the implementation of SYSEX integration with the JD-800. At this time, I do not have SYSEX integration on the roadmap to my knowledge. The reason that I was given for this is because the JD-800 VST does not exactly match the parameters of the original unit, so any data from an original unit could not be accurately interpreted by the VST the way something with 1:1 parameters could. The D-50 VST was unique in its 1:1 parameter, and did allow for the integration of SYSEX data, but not every modern version of these classic instruments can. I will add your request to our weekly list, as we are tracking demand for these features for future versions. Thanks!
thx a lot im no pro with these synths of course but i dont think this is impossible.... maybe someone with better knowledge can tell us?
i mean, roland cloud isnt the best service for customers as we know, and sell seperate expansions as plugins :P hear me? :P :x :x :x :x :x :x

Of course it's possible. Consider that the plugin already features the original factory presets!! (Albeit with a couple of them renamed.. )

Whilst there may well have been an element of manual tuning / verifying to import those, I very much doubt every single preset was copied over totally "by hand". This means Roland are likely to have an internal dev tool which translated the original preset data to the Zenology format (which the standalone plugin is based on.. ). Doesn't mean that's necessarily in a state which can be released, of course. But it does mean they've probably got "something" already.

Do you still have to ask papa Roland regularily if you are allowed to use the plugins ?

Yes, i think it's once in 30 days or so...

I noticed there are only 2 presets (out of 128) in System-8 that use the Trigger Envelope feature.
I was a bit surprised there were so few in there, as I think it's a cool feature for sound design.

Another thing I wondered about was the Key Hold. It wasn't working with my MIDI keyboard, so I wrote their support. They wrote back soon after and said that it only works if you click on the UI keys. I also asked if it's just monophonic, as it seemed to be. They mentioned if you press Shift on your computer keyboard (while clicking on the other keys you want to play on the UI) you can select more than one note to be held.

Yeah they really should have done more factory or third party presets with the trigger envelope. Total miss. And no clue why they don’t have key hold on standalone - that’s such a synth staple. There’s some design decisions on the hardware System-8 that simply defy logic.

Any requests from Roland Cloud users for the next Vst?
My personal favourite would be Roland JP8080 8)

Post

JP-8080 and V-Synth

RV-500 style Reverb in the Zenology FX, JP-8080 and something I have asked Arturia etc to do too is emulating their old hardware sequencers to output MIDI or audio that could be passed through as hardware triggers e.g. CSQ-600, System 100’s 104 module

Sure you are aware that you can use something like a Kenton MIDI/CV box to do this. It has an option to toggle between 5V and 10V trigger..I think old Roland stuff was 10v and most other stuff is 5v (or is that the other way around?)

If you have a spare Roland SH101 that can sequence other Roland gear, modulars etc..I think the sequencer is similar to the CSQ600 (I have the CSQ100)

The point is more that MIDI isn’t generally as consistent for hardware sequencing as audio based triggering. I just built a modular system that can pass audio straight through the DAW to a module so handy for emulating hardware sequencing especially when they go wonky.

But only if I can import the sounds from my hardware and if I can control the plugin from my JP8000. If not then I'll pass. I'm not going to pay a lot of money for a ZenCore skin file.

I’m pretty sure that if Roland will release JP8080 (I know it’s coming- sshh), it wan’t be just zencore.
It will be followed by magnitude of sound-banks for sure

First you said IF, then you said you know it's on its way.
Do you work for Roland?

It would be great if that was released sometime this year.
