I think the bug with cubase 7 (PC) is not 100% solved. Sometimes satin crashes cubase during loading satin into rack.

From Cubase Crashdump I got following info:
Unable to load image C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Satin(x64).vst3, Win32 error 0n2
FAULTING_IP:
ntdll!RtlReportCriticalFailure+89
000007fe'51ebbd59 eb00 jmp ntdll!RtlReportCriticalFailure+0x8b (000007fe'51ebbd5
ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000374 - Ein Heap wurde beschädigt.
PRIMARY_PROBLEM_CLASS: ACTIONABLE_HEAP_CORRUPTION_heap_failure_block_not_busy_AFTER_CALL

Please solve this!!

Tested with 1.0 and 1.0.2.

Could you please create a file called "Satin.log" on your desktop, recreate the crash, and then send the Satin.log plus the Cubase crash report to support at u-he dot com? We'll look into this immediately.
Cheers

There seems to be an issue in Cubase I'm having with Satin going inactive, as in it's not processing the sound in anyway and the meters go inactive. I asked my friend who has it too and he reports it going inactive aswell...

Also the issue with A Type compander sometimes switching sound off is still there since the last update.

Tis great though, so many options, 3 weeks in and still trying to find the best configuration for my stuff! haha....

Is there a preset community at all for this, ie more models of classic tape machines?

Thanks.

PS: For the 3rd time, I don't know why no one from U-He is answering this but what is age(decade) or model would be considered a vintage tape machine?

Sorry, but I don't know. They're all vintage now...?

The vintage/modern switch on the gui however selects the coating of the tape material, not the age of machine. I would have to consult the user guide to answer this correctly

As for user community, we're happy to host/link presets here:

And regarding bugs... a new version is on it way out... maybe during the weekend :)

Cheers,

Is that 1.1 or 1.0.3?

1.1 - adds wider range of (lower) tape speeds and hiss, as well as an auto mute button for latter.

Demoed it last night, bought it this morning. I had to sleep over it because I already have the Kramer Tape plugin, which I like and bought for halve the price of the Saturn intro price btw. to those who said Waves are overpriced:).

It adds something incredible to the mix, but what sold me was DAT HIS! Some Waves plugins have the noise option, but it's just that...noise. Satins' his I will use alot.

Great! :)

I'm perfectly happy with Satin as it is but I never say no for new features. I may find some use for the slower tape speed in my next project tho.

Yes that's why I mentioned it incase the bugs hadn't been put forward for the update. :)

I think the inactivity of Satin is only occuring for me when loading presets(and only sometimes still), I'm using Cubase's preset system though.

Also not that it bothers me too much as I only run it on busses(due to CPU) but will Satin ever be optimized down the line to use less CPU?(and maintain high quality, not talking about low quality mode)

8 instances(VST3) uses like 45% of my CPU on an I5 3570K 3.4GHZ at 1024 samples .. Like I say not really an issue with my work flow but would be good to be interesting to be able to use it on individual channels, if only 16... but maybe something for future processors!

That seems rather high. What is your sample rate?

Another Q about mastering tape, what position in the chain would tape go in back in the day, before or after limiter?

The limiter/compressor would have been a part of the mixing desk's master chain (or outboard hardware post mixing desk). Since the tape would be the final destination for the recording all effects would have been before it.

Bit late to the party, as I way waiting for some money to come through... I've got nothing constructive to add except for "wow, gush gush, awesome, speechless, must-have tool". I dropped Satin on an existing project, and loved what it did to the overall mix. I've used it on individual tracks for some colouration, for the natural compression and equalization it imparts, and REALLY loved what it did. Hitting the Dolby B NR and cranking up the noise took me straight back to the eighties.

My only request is to give us the ability to really FSU by adding an "exaggerate" button to some parameters like wow & flutter. I realize this would somehow go against Satin's design philosophy, but it would be most welcome (if possible).

Now I have two plugins that go on every track: Studio Devil Preamp, and Satin. Thanks so much, Sascha, Urs, and the rest of the team for your excellent work.
:hail:

The only downside is that now I want to go back and remix all of my tracks with Satin.

Good ain't it, ariston?

I believe (IIRC) the u-he guys have already pledged to extend the remit of Satin to make it more capable in the 'FSU' department. I think wow and flutter was specifically mentioned. It doesn't wobble enough for my taste either. I still use Phonec for that.

Satin 1.1 sanity check:

http://www.u-he.com/downloads/Satin/Satin11Mac.zip
http://www.u-he.com/downloads/Satin/Satin11Win.zip

- revision 1888
- lower minimum hiss
- hiss & asperity auto mute
- wider range of tape speeds (down to cassette speed)
- improved wow & flutter
- all known/reproducible bugs fixed, including delay screech and Reaper slider flutter

Please check for sanity as we wish to release this tonight :-)
