i think the scottish guy doesnt actually symbolize anything. its more about how simply hilarious and/or retarded the expression is.
its like pointed to a bent over grandma and saying "would you? ^_^" to your buddy. the idea isnt actually to ask that question, the answer is obviously a stern "No." for everyone (well, i'd hope.) its more about just being rediculous and giving your mates a hard time.

No...I thought everyone used the words digital and s/w interchangeably. I certainly don't differentiate between the two. They're all crap...apart from the one or two that aren't.

GMedia impOSCar filter...that one's as good as the original (which was a superb filter).Come on! Names, please!
And I've only heard small snippets of the Timewarp2600, but that sounds like a good'un.
The Korg MS20 VSTi filter is pretty reasonable too.
Errrrr....OK, I'm struggling to come up with any more....
Oh yeah...I think the EMU z-plane filters have already been mentioned - they were good too.

Imposcar filter is very good at 88/96khz but then most filters sound a lot better at those sample rates. I think my favourites are the Imposcar, and the MS-20 also, but having a real MS-20 the vsti version sounds nothing like it, it really doesn't.
The Oscar sounds pretty close though.

the flexor filters for my creamware modular of course. it slaps everything else silly! 
but ok, SW.. then on #2 Fabfilter Volcano.. wich is redicilously good in every possible way.
3# MS-20 for fatness and cpu draining.
