What are the best filters you have heard??

The best filters i have heard are from my sampler emu e5000 (z-plane) which i sold (I regret that very much:? ).
Now i am in software domain and i dont heard anything like z-planes. They are very smooth with solid warm bass and beautyfull , naturall resonanse. I really miss that kind of filters. i know there's a z-plane ulator for reaktor, not free though. i have some presets for psp nitro heading in that direction as well. yeah, i'd like a vst version, too..

There's the Emulator X, I hear it's pretty buggy though and hardware dependant. I have not found a software filter that made me go "damn!", at least not a filter by itself, there are some softsynths with pretty nice filters, but nothing as good as the analog filter in my ESQ1.

I had an EMU Carnival module and was not taken by the 50+ Z-Plane filters.

I had a Sherman Filterbank MK1 and thought that was a very nice sounding filter.

I really liked the filters on the AKAI 3000XL sampler.

Software wise I have yet to fall in love with a filter - there is a distinct lack of resolution at the bottom end of most software filters - must be the IC chips used in most soundcards?

All these experiences are based on many hours of use - not a 10 minute demo.

I never cared for the filters in my S3000, but damn do I miss that sampler. When I sold it and went software, I quit sampling, because software samplers don't even sample, and the coolest thing about samplers are sampling on the fly and making your own sounds quickly without having to dick around with an audio editor.

i think the filter on the Korg MS-20/MS-10 (hardware) sounds lovely. I used to process drum loops with it. Also the Mutronics Mutator is a nice analog filter. I was not impressed with the Electrix hardware filters...... Software wise..... i don't know of any filter that has the resonance of the hardware filters mentioned. strangly enough, I liked the filters in the Shortcircuit (free) sampler.

The filters in Vaz modular is the best I have heard. They are 64 bit, so they have a high resolution.

I haven't had massive exposure to hardware filters, but the Sherman Filterbank is the coolest I've heard.

In software, I like the filters in Vaz Modular the best.

my Electro-Harmonix BiFilter is the sweetest, nicest filter i've heard

my AKAI MFC42 is second

i like the Sherman, but i find it very dirty and gritty - great when you need that, but not good for precise, high-resonance 'clean' filtering

in software, it's the impOSCar filters first, the MiniMonsta ones second and QuadFrohmage third

For me it's between Fabfilter Volcano and the Ohmforce stuff (including Minimonsta, QuadFrohmage, etc).

Ensoniq Esq-1 has amazing filters, my Sherman Filterbank is very good as are the Yamaha CS-5 filters. They are all analog, but digital filters I would have to say Filterscape and Korg MS-20 filter.
