All I said, if you go back and read my first post on this ridiculous subject, was that all these so called "exclusive" R&B sounds (again, we're talking SOUNDS) were not exclusive to R&B music. Outside of a few, which I alluded to, most of them were equally used by rock groups.

I mean for crying out loud. It's not like the synths of the era were capable of making a wide pallet of sounds like they can today. How many sounds can a Minimoog or a Prophet make? Relatively speaking, very few. Most are just slight variations of other sounds. Anybody who argues that much is clearly clueless as to how limited synths of the era were unless of course we're talking about samplers like the Fairlight, which could do just about anything, or something like a Mellotron.

The capability of a wide pallet of sounds DID NOT EXIST. Certainly NOT like today.

So by all means. Please play me these "exclusive" R&B "sounds" that NOBODY else was using. It's laughable.

Which is why I said, and it's ALL I said, was that an R&B sound library might as well just be a generic sound library because there were only so many sounds made back then to begin with.

Again, listen to SOS Band for instance, those are not Rock sounds...

Maybe you don't hear the difference because, judging from all your projects you keep mentioning, you are so eclectic that you are not an expert on anything. I on the other hand only listen to 3 genres, 95% of my records were R&B when I grew up. I know when I hear R&B sounds...

You're confusing "sound" with "playing style" and there is nothing I can do or say that will make you understand the difference between the two.

So I'm done. Go and argue this with somebody who gives a crap.

Just tell me specific Rock songs from before the 80's that used those sounds (not playing styles)...

Just because a Rock and an R&B musician use the same Minimoog does not mean they make the same sounds on it. The palette of sounds old analog synths were able to make was not nearly as limited as you claim...

I'm constantly (and happily) surprised what I can get out of my old single oscillator, analog monosynth. I've owned it for 25 years, and still "finding" new sounds.

Single-oscillator monosynth? Which one? :)

I'd tend to agree with that... not that it's an absolute... but I'd say it's 75% playing style.

While demoing repro 5, I found out that the presets are so inspiring, makes me immediately want to write music, while all my other synths like massive or bazille I feel more inspired when making sound from scratch.
Just curious, how do you use repro? Program it or use presets?

I find it oddly challenging to just noodle about with epic sounds.
Like taking an XKE to walmart for doritos and cocacola.
But it's a challenge I'm happier to embrace, than not be able to.
If epic themes and ballads it must be, count me in :hyper:
Cheers
