I'm also searching for a good "temporary mapping" M4L device. I just need such a device in order to control plugins and vsti parameters without using the permanent Live mapping system.
Live had a legacy Expression Control that can serve this purpose (I don't know why they get rid of CC control in the new Expression Control), but it's a bit limited.
The 3d party devices I'm using now are the JGJPCCmapper or the Midihub device by SimonR. They're nice, but have different issues : JGJPCCmapper is very basic with no curve or smoothing features, MidiHub is great but a memory and CPU hog, and I had some stability issues recently (that seem to get fixed with recent Live updates, but you never know).
By good device, I mean a stable, CPU efficient, regularly updated device with some decent features (curve, smoothing...)

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Thanks... Yep something like that, but with more features. Try to imagine the built-in Live Expression Control, but with the possibility to use CC input as a source.noiseresearch wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 9:24 amI'm not sure if I understand you correct. I know it exists some 3d party variations of it (like "Midi Hub" and "Expression control +" by SimonR) but I would be curious to know if it exists other devices I don't know.

I did a quick search but could not find something similar to Expression Control but with MIDI CC input. A bit surprising tbh. I'll take a look into the Expression Control – maybe I can hack something together.Calagan wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 9:46 amThanks... Yep something like that, but with more features. Yes something like this. I know this plugin. But it was not updated since 2016, and I miss the nice features of Midi Hub (like the curve and smoothing features). The takeover mode is nice though...koalaboy wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 6:10 pm Something like this ? https://maxforlive.com/library/device/3 ... ntrol-bank
Midi Hub is truly the best device I know for temporary CC mapping, and it's free (so I can't really complain), but it's not CPU efficient and like I said I had issues after a Live update (that was fixed after another Live update, so the issue was probably with Max or Live, not Midi Hub).
Because I use it on stage, I'm alway a bit afraid to break things when changing anything on my system... I would prefer a commercial device that is regularly updated.
Like @noiseresearch said, I'm also very surprised it doesn't exist more M4L devices in the style of Expression Control, but with CC. And I'm even more surprised it's not directly built in Live.
I sent an email to Killihu asking about this, but he doesn't seem interested in building something...
I guess I'm alone in finding it is one of the most important features one could use on stage : I don't do techno, I play songs and use Live as a vsti player (I use Diva, Repro, Kontakt...) and as an FX rack (for vocals). So if I need to tweak the reverb of my piano on song A and then the saturation applied to a synth bass on song B, using the same knob on my midi keyboard, using the classic Live mapping is not an elegant solution because one knob is quickly permanently associated with dozen of different parameters. Another issue with Live mapping is the exclusive use of CC : I use often a sustain pedal on stage, sometimes as a... sustain pedal (to sustain notes), but sometimes as a CC64 device to trigger things (for exemple to mute an FX rack on song A, or enable another FX rack on song B). If I map my sustain pedal to something, I lose the possibility to use it as a sustain pedal in general.
If I could spend some time with an Ableton dev, I would speak hours with him about the interest of implementing "midi learn" in Live (temporary CC mapping of a device, only when a CC signal reaches the device, using chains to filter the midi signal) as a complement to mapping (that is eternal, crosses the chains and midi filters, and is exclusive).
Anyway, to speak about something else, I just bought the Sequencer-Ki from Killihu (even if I'm broke).
It's an excellent device, and almost everything was planned feature wise.
The only thing I miss for now is a way to build a gigantic sequence using the 32 pattern grids, instead of relying on midi notes to change the pattern : it could be amazing to just have the possibility to play each pattern in a sequential mode, one after the other, setting the range somewhere (for exemple, to play pattern 1 to 4, or 1 to 16), exactly like it's now possible to play them randomly. It would be a great feature for 2 reasons :
- when programming complex drum variations, you could have a good basic view of how it sound when played sequentially (instead of being obliged to rely on a midi clip that changes the patterns)
- it's simply the way to do when you want to program a very long pattern - say, a 4 or 8 bars pattern with a 32 steps grid.
But it's an excellent device...

Well I can't promise anything, as I'm new to M4L and very busy with work, but I'll try to play with creating something, or changing an existing, to see what I can do.
If it was just the Expression Control, but CC (and a number) as a source... would that be what want in principle ?

Great offer. I actually wanted to open Expression Control and find a way to add a cc input source, but I’m not that good at learning how to code in M4L. And this is actually what already did SimonR.koalaboy wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 12:07 pm Well I can't promise anything, as I'm new to M4L and very busy with work, but I'll try to play with creating something, or changing an existing, to see what I can do.

But I still think there is a place for a simpler (compared to midi hub) Expression Control variation with just cc input source added…

Maybe I wasn't so lucky, but Dillon's Iota device has problem with recalling parameters.tonycore wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 2:15 pm Just a quick shoutout to Dillon B for excellent customer service - I had an issue (which was entirely my fault) and he was very quick to resolve it for me.
https://dillonbastan.com/store/maxforli ... oduct=iota
First time i reported almost two years ago, and Dillon actually were response, with make updated version, but in which turned out to be the same problems. Then he said that quite busy in near time but will fix when will had time, something like that.
So gone almost two years, and device still can say unusable. With my latest messages which were ignored.
The deal not in money (although Iota not his cheapest plug), but i really love the idea of this device and visual design in general. So for me it sort of unique thing. That's why it's offensive.
To be honest, after this my desire to buy any of M4L in general greatly diminished. (With the thought that if such a cool dude can’t fix them, then it looks like everything is bad heh).
Just i'm already had experience with problems with m4l before, exactly because recalling, either it was samples, or parameters. In payable modules i mean.
Ie in static everything is nice and wonderful, until you actually start using it in projects.
No, I quite admit that some simple m4l things can be workhorses (like LFO or a simple single-sample granular), but when it comes to more complex\multi-layered things espcially with samples, random issues with recalling almost certainly going to be. And you will lucky if the support team is responsive.
BTW have great experience with K-Devices support. Perhaps it;s not so unique as Dillon stuff, but that m4l's with i have no probs, and those bugs that were reported were fixed.

Dynamic EQ was updated with new features:
— Resonance/Clashing detection mode (toggled by ALT+click on UI). Depending on the chosen sidechain mode for the current band (internal or external), there's a visual indication of the most resonant regions of the spectrum or regions where current and sidechain signals are clashing the most.
— Independent sidechain. So bands from 1 to 6 each can have their own sidechain.
— Color mode (toggled by CTRL+click on UI). Just if the generic Ableton style is boring for you, there's a new colorful mode.
You're welcome to purchase it here:
https://renesens.gumroad.com/l/mcndzj
The price is $10 (with a possible discount of up to 50%, depending on your region).
Don't hesitate to PM me in case you find a bug.
