Get Reaktor then and generate samples from it for use in Reason. Reaktor is the shit.RawTheory wrote:Up yoursBONES wrote:Thank-you, Mr Experience.RawTheory wrote:Basic Channel, you should try rewiring Reason to Live 5. I find the combination very inspiring. I'm happy that I haven't had to worry about spending more money on new software until now. Reason + Live 5 is quite comprehensive. But a new instrument would equal more inspiration so now im in the market for one but I fully expect to continue using Reason as my audio workhorse.

Of course it does, everything in it is their code. It should be as stable as any stand-alone product that doesn't support any kind of 3rd party plug-ins or anything. But who cares, my host is completely and utterly rock-solid. Its been a total nn-issue for me for 3 or 4 years.headquest wrote:The fact of the matter is that in terms of efficient coding and CPU handling, etc, Reason really does put the VSTs and their hosts to serious shame.
So what!?! You can choose not to use them if you don't want but at least you get a choice. Th enative instruments in ORION are considerably more efficient than any plugins too, as are Fruity native generators. You're talking like its an either/or proposition but its not. There are so many best-of-both-world solutions out there that your comparisons are irrelevant. Some VSTs can use as much as 50% of my meagre laptop CPU (but I'm getting a new one very soon now!), while I can still comfortably tun 50+ Reason devices without problems. The CPU issues associated with VST instruments is now regularly commented on in all the makor music press as a real problem.
In my case that's because I'd rather spend my money on a grunty PC than on efficient, closed software. The former is liberating, the latter is stifling.KVR forum is inhabitted by a bunch of great people who happen to be highly committed to the VST format, in spite of the CPU issues.
Pig's arse! [See above for full explanation.]Because Reason shows that CPU and memory handling realy should not be such a problem in music software, it sets down a challenge that the VST developers seem unable to rise to, and that really gets their backs up

But you have already spent more than I have and you've not bought a single VSTi and from your tone I also gather that you've not tried any freebies. So you have absolutely nothing upon which to base any comparisons. My host is half the price of Reason and has roughly double the number of instruments and effects, most of incredibly high quality. But most of all, it supports all major standards so I can use any VST/VSTi/DX plugins I desire in a completely integrated fashion, rather than having to succumb to the perverse will of Proppellerheads who ignore all industry standards, in an effort to protect their precious market-share, and instead make a huge amount of work for other developers who prefer to give their users freedom of choice. The're c**ts and they can rot in hell. But if you like being treated that way, be my guest.RawTheory wrote:Up yours. who cares what you have to burn

the guy's just giving his opinion, he makes more use of Reason, so what the f**k is your problem? Do we complain about you fornicating all over Orion on every single f**king accasion you get
who gives a flying f**k how your sperm covered Orion functions in your amazingly high-spec'ed 'power to burn' machineOf course it does, everything in it is their code. yeah, very liberating.. all he uses is OrionIn my case that's because I'd rather spend my money on a grunty PC than on efficient, closed software. you must feel soooo extremely liberated
it's not an argument anyway. Using Reason doesn't mean he can't use anything else. It's just an other instrument asshole, and a very versatile one for that matter
what explanation? you meanPig's arse! [See above for full explanation.]Because Reason shows that CPU and memory handling realy should not be such a problem in music software, it sets down a challenge that the VST developers seem unable to rise to, and that really gets their backs up
yes, you really told him there, didn't you?..blahblahblah Orion blahblah.. blah

Yep BONES has a boner for Orion.
Personally orion didn't suit me although theres no doubt it's a capable tool in the right hands (doublentendres there hmmmm?), & that's what it comes down to (imo).
Different people, different workflows & all that shite.
BONES does seem to have a personal axe to grind when it comes to reason though & occasionally takes it out upon poor ignorant (in his opinion), unsuspecting reason users who haven't yet seen the light that is the wonder of ORION (may it's name be praised, forever more & everafter - amen).

well, I used to have Orion. I thought it was nice, especially for the money, but ultimately it didn't realy suit me very well. But I don't make it my mission to tell people 'how crap it is' and what a f**king idiot you have to be to use it, and 'my host is sooo much better that your's you idiot' and blahblahblah
but I guess you need that mindless, narrow minded, eye-flap tunnel vision reasoning if you're to make it in the army for more than a year. I just wished he stayed there and left us the f**k alone

Sure BONES is pretty vocal about his like for Orion but he does have a point. As far as I know, his PC isn't much more powerful than mine, and mine is utter crapspaceman wrote:because BONES is a f**king idiot who thinks his halfwit opinion, his criple piece of junk called Orion and his amazing 'power-to-burn' pc is better than anyone elses.. and he's not afraid to annoy the living crap out of people with itkmonkey wrote:What is this? And no, I'm not arse kissing. If I was, I'd have said I only use Orion and kILLERs.

Got a strange feeling with this thread. The first post was an interesting opener for exchange of experience. But then the usual. Several people exposing their egos instead of a serious discussion about the topic. Some try to come back to the original issue, but finally another proof for: When people feel bored, they try everything to undermine other peoples' attemps for being creative.

I love Reason.
I also don't try to force everyone to like it. I think a lot of the arguments against are weird and excaggerated, but some are 'valid'. If you don't like it - hey, don't use it...
