Once you know 1 you basically know them all neway
Yes and no. If you know how to do something in one program you can do it in another. The problem comes up when one program can't do something that another can, for instance ProTools is an industry standard for audio (for some reason  ) but my cat has better MIDI implementation. I guess I don't have any suggestions I just felt like typing.

p.s. If you are a student and feel like not being a thief you should check out sites like academicsuperstore.com you can get Acid Pro 6 for about $180 American and FLStudio 6 XXL Producer Edition for a cool $150

p.p.s I don't have a cat.

Ooh, and with a dongle too.

IMO, Sonar's the winner. So, do we cancel each other out? :P

(For once, I'd like to see a thread like this without someone having to say "IMO, this one's better").

"Better" is subjective as these four pages have shown. Tell the guy his choices, let him try the demos, and leave it at that...

I've used may different sequencers and I find Cubase SX3 the most satisfying.

Post

Dito, I'm using Cubase SX 3 as well. I found it the most intuitive sequencer for my way of thinking. It truly does what you have asked for. What I would change today is: use a MAC and no PC. While the PC works ok, I have seen more stable systems on a MAC. Also the integrated tools, effects etc. seems to be a lot better in LOGIC than in Cubase. But anyways, I'm very much satisfied using Cubase SX 3...

That pretty much sums up my needs and ORION Platinum meets them infinitely better than anything else I have tried or seen. It doesn't have some lame built-in wave editor, it integrates your wave editor of choice right into the Playlist. Version 7 is just around the corner and I think it is going to tempt a lot of people to try it out again as a lot of effort is going into workflow improvement and apparantly a couple of huge bugs have been eliminated so pretty much everyone should find it completely stable now.
If you come from a hardware set-up you will find ORION far more intuitive and the learning curve should be minimal. It also comes with the highest quality suite of instruments and effects of anything this side of Logic and loads of very high quality sample sets for the sampler and sample-based drum-machine.

I would use FL Studio if it were twice the price that it is, and I would certainly never call it "Low Level". I wouldnt ever call XT low level either.

It does everything the poster asked for, but from using it as an example he's probably unhappy with it for some reason.

I agree I could have whatever host I want and I prefer to work with FL Studio. Low level  pllleease

FL Studio would be very appealing if it wasn't for the playlist :(

yeah I can see that if one is used to a proper arranger window. I for one like the pattern-based playlist. You can try the bottom half of the playlist as an arranger window but it can be difficult.

For the record FL does this too. I can go to any sampler's channel, right-click the waveform display, and select adobe Audition. You can even Drag a sample from the FL browser and drop it right into Audition. Not trying to convince you of anyhting here - Just saying.
