one of the best features in xt in my opinion, becuase you get to not only nudge, but transpose, resize and velocity very quicklyYeah but you need to hold ctrl to use the keyboard to nudge a midi note,
cheers

I don't follow. You have to move your hands from the arrows to the < and > keys to zoom right? Or are you just using the z key? Also how are you zooming with the keyboard?.Jon wrote:soma wrote:Yeah but you need to hold ctrl to use the keyboard to nudge a midi note, and shift to use <>.
At lest make it still use arrows for both and switch modifiers to change between zooming and moving so that you don't have to move your fingers from arrows to qwerty. geez

Standard QWERTY's have dual ctrl and shift buttons, on top of each other for both hands. No need to move hands at all to change snap or move. Not to zoom either, not even on my notebook without a num pad. I just straighten my finger to zoom in, thumb zooms out. Great ergonomics, and in any case you get custom shortcuts in XT2
I use my left hand, or actually just the index finger. Possibly scandinavian layout is then different after all? We have the < > key (just one) next to the left Shift.soma wrote: I don't follow. yes, I guessed so from your post, but you can set mouse-buttons so that they act as the three modifiers (that's what I have done)soma wrote:Jens,
a mouse with custom shortcuts is very helpful, but I'm more of a QWERTY kind of guy. I am too slow with a mouse compared to how fast I can type.
same here.jon wrote:I use my left hand, or actually just the index finger. Possibly scandinavian layout is then different after all? the window with input focus receives the key, if it isnt processed the key will be forwarded to the main window. its focus sensitive. Will the custom shortcuts be context sensitive? e.g. will the midi editor have one function for the key "a" and the arrange view will have a different function for the key "a" and the main window will have its own function for the key 'a"?

Ah I use USA layout most of the time (at least that is paint I have on my keyboard). Our <> are shifted , . on the right hand side.jens wrote:same here.jon wrote:I use my left hand, or actually just the index finger. Possibly scandinavian layout is then different after all? I've already adjusted myself in Ext. Infact, recently even while using sonar, i accidentally use a bunch of EXT shortcuts.jens wrote:keyman_sam wrote: 3 would be enough actually. The 3 different nudge types could be nudge per frame, per snap settings, or per sixteenth note. Lets say you are trimming an audio clip, after trimming, you might want to move the clip to the left or right PRECISELY to a frame. Ofcourse, you can do this with snap settings, but imagine if you can nudge it per frame, or per sixteenth note or per measure using the keypad. That would be very quick, provide precise control, and would be easy to use too. You need 8 keys if you want to nudge left and right for 4 different nudge types. In this case, 6 keys would be enough (nudge left/right for 3 different types).
Sonar has this exact feature ,and i find myself using it regularly. Its like a jogwheel for moving audio, only thing you're using keyboard instead of a jogwheel. Very nifty.
I already spotted a while ago that you are a Sonar user - however eXT is not Sonar and it will never be - eXT has itsa own workflow and the best advice I can give to you is to adjust yourself to it if you intend to wcontinue working with it...(I know both applications pretty welkll b.t.w.)
eXT let's you move the items(parts (=clips), midi-notes, samples) by using keyboard shortcuts and eXT let's you set the snap-resolution by shortcuts so that's the way to go here...
