EXT2 needs simple midi and audio editing features

1). Query and replace notes, CC info, whatnot, in a midi clip. THis is one of the most valuable features in Sonar (when i sequence my Fantom S).

2). Advanced offline quantisation - A quantisation dialogue where you can adjust the swing percentage, window size, and strength.

3). Inserting measures/time signature - simple enough.

4). Deleting a hole (option)- when you delete something, the gap has to be closed in.

5). Advanced copy/paste dialogue boxes - should include an option for "Source measures" "Destination" "Overwrite/overdub" "repetitions" "Ghost clips option".

6). Nudge left/right - 4 different types assignable to 8 keys. Dont even get me started on how useful this is when editing audio. In short, it is EXTREMELY useful.

7). Manual crossfades - drag the end of a clip and a crossfade curve is automatically drawn.

8). Drawable envelopes ON THE CLIP ITSELF (instead of a seperate track).

9). Overwrite/overdub/autopunch/waitnote recording option.

10).Automatically copying imported material - currently, whatever you import from another folder, remains in that folder, and you have to manually copy it into your PROJECT's folder. Would be nice if EXT2 automatically copied the material to your project's folder as you import.

Implement these features in EXT2 and, jorgen, I guarentee you, Sonar and Cubase will have to consider you as a serious competitor.

Its nice to know that you're implementing revolutionary features like modular workflow, etc, but EXT is still missing the MOST basic functions that a DAW requires (like good quantisation, crossfading without fuss) and thus its stopping EXT from becoming a truly FULL-FLEDGED daw for music production (imo). Yeah i can create a bunch of songs in EXT, but I cant use EXT for sequencing external gear, neither can i do stuff like search and replace. WIth the features I mentioned, Sonar and Cubase will have something to be afriad of. :)

(Currently i'm sequencing some songs with external gear in SONAR, which is a breeze for such tings, but i WISHED that i could do it in EXT. Infact, I'd LOVE to do it in EXT, but because of some basic things (like copy n paste, search and replace, advanced quantize, midi recording of external gear) I cant even think about it. I still cant get EXT to record my Fantom S. I read the workaround, but i'm still confused as to what i'm exactly supposed to do. )

SOrry for the rant, but I really wished EXT could do these basic things. :(

+1 to everything except nr.8 and the ranting ;-)

I usually have several envelopes linked to one clip, and even more often one envelope linked to several plugins - having them separeted just works better.

nice ideas, lots if it already coded or planned for XT2
5). Advanced copy/paste dialogue boxes - should include an option for "Source measures" "Destination" "Overwrite/overdub" "repetitions" "Ghost clips option".
Not sure if I like this feature though, a dialog box for copying parts?

Clips in xt are ghosted by default.

Regarding the copying feature :

What I meant is, currently, if i want to copy 20 tracks' data from measure 6 to 12, and paste it in ANOTHER 20 tracks, or from measure 13, the current way to do is to select all the CLIPS and then copy paste. This is kinda flimsy, because its not a proper copy and paste.

With an OPTIONAL copy and paste dialog (in the prefs), you can get the EXACT from and to measures, and the EXACT destination, and whether you want them in different tracks, or same tracks, or whether you want to overdub or overwrite, etc., ALL these options can be made in one-single go in a dialog box. Currently this is not possible in EXT. Yeah, i knew that clips are ghosted by default, but if you made that an option, that would be cool. Everytime, i have to rightclick and select unghost, to create a variation and stuff like that.

Regarding the envelopes, sometimes i use envelopes linked to various tracks too. What i meant was in addition to an envelope track, lets have basic features like crossfading at the ends.

no, the poweruser simply hits crtl+u - easy enough...

Ok I see, yes it could be useffull.

Btw, if you just want to repeat a block of parts, you can still use ctrl-d (it works with multiple parts as well), if you want a gap, you can use ctrl+arrow keys to move the block of parts while they are still selected. Or you can add a marker clip that groups the parts you want to move/copy.

To copy without ghosting use ctrl+shift

XT2 does offer automation in audio and midi clips as well as seprate automation track...you can stack or overlay (as in screeshot) and easely show/hide automation.

I still learn new things about eXT every now and then... :D

I'd sugggest changing ctrl+shift+d to create unghosted duplicates, and activate track duplication only when no clips are selected on the track.

Jorgen,
MUCH respect for the screenshot. :D

As for the duplicates, I knew about the duplicating multiple clips, and marker, etc., but did not know about the Ctrl+shift shortcut. Thanks for the tip. :D

As I had mentioned, its about precise control of what you want to copy and paste, instead of highlighting a buncha clips within an approximate timeframe and pressing ctrl+D 16 times. Duplicating is a quick solution, but a full-fledged copy and paste dialog box option would be superb. :)

Jens,
thanks for the very useful tip. :D As you can see, I've not mastered the shortcuts yet. :D
