That's strange reasoning. Gol/FL isn't responsible for your high CPU usage. Blame your [use of] plugins. :?

Freeze only helps so much. Even when implemented really elegantly it will still affect workflow somewhat. The best solution is simply trying to cut down on CPU use. Stick with plugs that are easy on the CPU.
your reasoning sounds like a developer with a host with no freeze function. does tunafish have freeze? and, the big guys do it elegantly.
Yes, Tunafish does have freeze.

I just needed to point out that your reasoning is seriously flawed. You say Gol expects you to buy a new PC with every new version of FL? How is that? I doubt CPU use went up significantly between version 5 and version 6. The CPU usage is all in your plugs, not in FL.
yeah, and with freeze, the cpu would go down in all my plugs, significiantly.
if my reasoning is flawed then so is yours.

btw dude, what kind of freeze are wea talking about in tuna fish. if its the kind that renders to wave with effects then  if it renders the fx, shuts them off, creates an audio track, and then easily unfreezes ect then 8)

in all seriousness dude, i swear to you that im not even close to an amature producer. i know my stuff as far as production is concerned. understanding software isnt my thing though. and if your goona claim that tunefish has a true freeze then it function as stated. no one said being a software developer is easy, and many developers fail sooner or later. and they fail fopr a reason, because the software isnt up to par.

if tunefishes version of freeze is basily rendering a wave. then say tunefish export to wave. as far as im concerned you get what you pay for.

including knowing right-click slices off the piece to the right and left-click the piece to the left?
i even tried to utilize fl to its full power by rendering every synth to wave, disabling effects ect. i feel ive outgrown its simple workflow and outgrown its use. i feel disgusted with gol that there is still no freeze. wtf is hes thinking, ive not a clue.

its no longer acceptable with todays high cpu synths. (save it, i utilized fl to its full potential, and it still seriously let me down) with daws having freeze today, producers no longer need to buy a new pc every time new software is released. im not gonna go out and buy a superfast cpu just to use the newest version of fl studio. theres alot producers who make great music on there relatively slow pcs because there daw includes a freeze function.

that, and that they work with alot of hardware and samples. it seems like gol expects people to buy a hot new pc for each version of fl studio. you dont need to question this, its rediculous. and im not going to, because i shouldnt have to beg my host for forgiveness.
I sympathize with the cpu issue, but I think you'll find that no host will make enough of a difference in performance that the purchase price couldn't instead just upgrade your old machine/ buy a new one. If Ableton is 400$ - you could buy almost a whole new computer, add your old soundcard and have a better setup with the old host for that kind of cash.
i do have ext and reaper. i think ext has a simple freeze? , dunno about reaper. i too am realy confused by ext, but im afraid to load up the forums with stupid questions.
Can you see how people might be put off by your rant? At first you speak of FL's simple workflow, and that you've utilized it to it's full potential, but then you comment that you are really confused by eXT. To the casual observer, it looks a bit like a contradiction. I imagine that there are whole worlds to be discovered in automation, formula controller, etc. Some of the people around KVR who love FL are profoundly good musicians who have greater needs than you and I and yet they've found magic in it. I think one of the positives that came from your study of synth1 was the belief that it is the artist that makes the art, not the tools.
when i owned synapse orion platinum, i never felt afraid to post. as did/does anybody else. and the support was the best i ever had from a commercial software standpoint.
was Bones banned? :hihi: -I actually find his thinking helpful.
dunno how friendly the ext forums is, the reaper forums are pretty good. i cant say i have ever got any decent help on the looptalk forums. it was hard to comprehend becuase i was buried in a 6 foot hole filled with sarcasm and piled high with bullshit.

so i too am looking for a new host.
It sounds like you are pretty frustrated, and perhaps there is a time in which a different host will meet your needs: that is a fair assessment. But it's a lot of time and money to invest in something other than making music (initially). Cpu is a problem, but it will be a problem in any host: I think the differences are a bit over stated. Freeze is a solution that just isn't going to work the way most people want it in FL anytime soon. I don't know about an XT solution - FL and Xt seem like they can do just about anything when used together.

I think your music has a great sound to it, and I would hate to see it take a back seat to chasing a "holy grail" sequencer. Sometimes people are put off when other members have to convince them of their knowledge and skill. -especially true considering all the amazing programmers and musicians that hang out around here. And then the rest like me. Let your music do your talking! Experiment a bit with the old tools and have fun again. Sorry to ramble on. :)

i see your right maybe its time to go back to making music again instead of spending time trying to make music work for me i admit, i was more productive in fl studio when i was using just synth 1. there started to become a time when i could make anysound i wanted from it... then, i guess i got greedy. started to amass this huge studio full of awsome synths and forgot about synth1. havent finished a tune since i added all thee new synths. sometimes you need to accept that what works may not always be what you realy want to work but it does because it works the holy grail. i remember that word. it caused alot of anguish in me and frusteration.
i will go go back to synth 1. its what works. i will go back to fl studio. and ill try ext too. ive used fl studio for years becuase it works. if it didnt it wouldnt.

apologies to all developers i pissed on in frusteration. gol, brambos, imagline. my apologies. i will go back to making music instead of trying to create music.

hit how many track do you usually have in a song? I spent some time trying to find the most cpu effecient plugs for my mixing. I try and stay under about 60% cpu with about 15 or so tracks. I Also bounce to an audio track if its not one of fl generators.

hi lee. i try to have no more then 4 elements in each of my tunes. usualy, double layered basses, a lead pad, sometimes layered, a lead, can be layered, and a second lead, usally not layered. layered ,percussion, comp, then eq, then fx chain, witrh pattern 1 being intro, 2 bridge/verse 3 bridge/verse, 4 chorus, 5 breakdown, 6 extro.

15 tracks with 60 percent? wow you must have a realy fast pc.

Bullshark,
i feel with you. I'm in quite the same position (for many months already).
I'd suggest to ask dedicated questions about the workflow, instead using names for it ("freeze").
I.e. don't ask how to record in eXT, ask them in their forum, HOW they record. Ask about every mouse-click that is necessary.
Otherwise you will always receive most stupid answers like "use easy-on-the-CPU PlugIns".
You know where your problems are. So just ask how this certain task can be done and all the fanboys soon will shut up, when it comes to explain the workflow and it turns out to be a long list, while in other programs this can be done with 3 clicks.

No delay, no reverb, no track compression/eq :).

When I have 2-3 tracks with FX I already need to freeze :(.

not really fast i just use low cpu vsti and vst and bounce to loops and arrange in the playlist

hitman, dude if you're using exclusively synth1 and maxing out your box, i gotta ask what kind of box you own.

While I can empathize with your plight, I cannot say I agree that it is fair to blame the programmer. His product excels at what it is designed for. Maybe because I program I can also empathize with gol/IL that coding a feature like freeze (which is a significant amount of work I bet given the way FL handles routing) is somewhat a waste of time because the user can already achieve the functionality and end-result of freeze with their own footwork. It's difficult to justify either side I think -- in some ways you could argue that gol does add workflow features that duplicate/enhance functionality that was already there before the workflow feature was implemented (a good example is the toolbar button for One-click audio recording in v6.4 beta -- this existed before on the Tools menu only I believe - the thing is that's much less difficult I'd bet since it's just pointing to the same functional code and the only modification was the creation of the UI parts to handle the button calling the existing code). Freeze is not so trivial.

I realize thinking from the perspective of the developer shouldn't be a users concern too, so don't go there :)

i SERIOUSLY beg to differ dude. when i tryed ableton, i had a song at almost full cpu and lowered it to almost nothing after everytrack was frozen
I know there are some 3rd party freeze solutions. have you looked into those? They basically take the host out of the equation and are wrappers to the plugs you'd use. It might be worth trying?

hi. i own a pentium 4 2.8 gig. before i was only using synth 1 and even though it was the only synth i was using, the maxing out the box came from, tons of effects, in a chain. from comp-eq-dimension-send ect. i thought to myself, out of cpu using synth 1??? but i use a comp-eq and slur of effects on every channel. then very recently i spent almost a week reviewing the quality/usabilty of every freeware synth and effect. anyway after, i added alot more synths that definitly arent low cpu. like hg fortune, angular monentum, bk synthslabs inro ect. thats where all these problems started.

when i compose in fl studio i tend to use a one instrument/one track kind of deal. the problem is, after exporting everything to wave. i need to 'hear' my track and how everything sounds together. i cant piece together solo tracks. im a good producer but im limited to the host i can use due to how i need to 'hear' my music in realtime. its also nay impossible to think pattern based. i do well with having one track set for each. intro, bridge, verse, chorus, breakdown, and extro.

so thats why im having alot of dificultys with fls manual freze.
