Having to activate monitoring first, gives you one huge advantage. You decide when Podium loads all its plugins. When you use a huge sample library, loading an arrangement can take up to several minutes. In Podium you can set up the whole arrangement, change mappings and import sound files etc. without having to wait until all Plugins are loaded.

By the way, you do not have to activate monitoring manually. When you press the play button (or your space bar), monitoring activates itself. So there is no extra step for you to take.

There are some new video tutorials in the wiki section on zynewave.com
This should help users who are new to Podium. There are more to follow...

is there a way to turn off vst plugin scanning everytime you create a new project?

I created a new project with all the midi/audio I/Os set up and plugins imported, then saved it as 'default.pod' in C:\Documents and Settings\*User*\My Documents\Zynewave Podium Projects. Podium should then load this file at start up, ready to go.

Mart.

You can also save a project as template. You can create several templates. And each time you want to start a new project, you can chose a template.

The templates are cool, FL Studio does this as well, and I use this feature a lot because it gives you a head start in whatever direction you are going to go in.

Phew... well that was an interesting demo experience.

Once again I'm reminded how stable and powerful this sequencer is. Records synth parameters in realtime really nicely. CPU usage seems to be good. I love the bezier editing, I think that's fantastic. Feels very 'immediate'. Also, the piano roll is much nicer than I remember.

Basically, I finally worked out how to insert an instance of Kontakt2 and control the various instruments (not helped by the fact that Kontakt, Kontakt - 8 out and Kontakt - 16 out all appear as identically named mappings where you have to open them up to work out which is which... though I guess you can rename them manually). You drag an output channel mapping in (1+2) and then control it with one of the midi mappings (#1 - #16). What I didn't realise was that the midi mapping channels are siblings of the output channel, not children which confused me utterly.

Anyway, I got that working nicely.

However, when I wanted to insert another instance of an identical Kontakt plugin, I got completely and utterly confused and couldn't seem to get a new instance working at all. :(

Are there any Podium/Kontakt users who could give me some pointers?

Locate the Kontakt mappings in the device list on the project start page. Right-click the folder and select "New Instance". This should create a duplicate set of mappings with "(#2)" in the mapping names. You can create any number of instances this way.

Heh, I just figured it out (from the wiki page) as soon as your message arrived. You must have telepathic powers Frits! :hihi:

Yes, it's working fine now, thankyou. :)

Last couple of questions:

1. Is there a count-in for the metronome?

2. Is it possible to switch of the 'sliding' animation when selecting Inputs/Presets/Params etc. (i.e., have them open instantly)?

Post

1: No. It's on the todo list.
2: The preferences dialog has a "Disable panel show/hide animations" option, but this does not affect the panel animations within the inspector. Edit: I guess it would make more sense if these panel animations are controlled by the animation option as well. I'll change that.

I bought podium a while ago but lack of audio crossfades kind of end my use of it...though occasianlly I use to render a track with a vst which is mishaving in another app.

I've fallen in love with reaper....but podiums MIDI/Piano roll is more mature and now audio is catching up feature so I'm going to give this another spin

The new project start page makes things a lot easier.

For a real cubase/sonar competitor, my money is on this app. At least until reapers piano roll is more mature.

For composition though, patterns in FL Studio are very fast for me. But I think I will start getting my basic ideas down in FL and moving into another host.

It does have crossfading now, as I recall :)

The more I demo this, the more I'm becoming aware of how little I knew about it. So many of the things I thought were awkward actually give way to some really intuitive possibilities. I like the way you can wrap almost anything in bounce groups. Everything looked a mess until I gave different channels heirarchical coloring which suddenly makes everything much clearer.

I'm going to investigate the version that comes with the next Computer Music and give it a good runthrough. I've been a bit dissapointed to find some things broken in Sonar 6 (like copy & pasting VST automation) that are much simpler and also more robust in Podium.

Money's still on XT2, but Podium is intruiging me immensely.

Time to download the latest release then :) Clip fade-in/out was added in release 1.73. Automatic crossfades was added in 1.75.
