Can't wait for the browser/organizer. I never sell my xio after this powerfull software.:)

Post

ahh, thank you again, and like everyone, I am eagerly waiting for your lib/browser.

I am having a bit of difficulty with a few things, and I don't know if it's my microsoft mouse, or what, but if I right click to get the resize (which I inadvertently do sometimes), the pointer disappears, and I have to restart the program. Also, and this is more important..sometimes the xgator bars stop adjusting, IOW, I pull one of them done or off, and when I go back to adjust it, it doesn't move. I think I will try turning off the mouse software and see if all that goes away...or maybe it's a synthedit issue?

but..THANKS AGAIN! I know how hard getting that xgator programming was..and you came through. I have been able to start programming different west african and afro cuban riddim patterns into the Xio via the xgator, and it's pretty cool to have these on the fly. I think there's still some way to have..in the librarian?? a way to store various xgator patterns (and for that matter various sequencer patterns too if you could hack into where they are..) and be able to sort of port over the patterns from one patch to another..I know it's possible to do as is..but that step in the librarian would be great.

Has Novation approached you to do the program and pay you?? I hope so, you deserve $$ and the access to their software for all the work you've done for free..for all the time you have saved us..and for the fact that, as said above, now we can really get into the grit of the synth. It's amazing how when you can see all at once what is going on, it becomes much clearer..I have been using synths since Arp Axxe daye (yep, that long) and have gotten very used to the speed and efficiency of using a visual editor. A lot of the patches I like and have on my Xio from other people have shit thrown in..efx, various "wrong" filter settings..and using your editor has made the clean up a much easier job.

thanks again.

I don't suppose there's potential for KS4/5/Rack support? I know they all had a lot of knobbage to play with, but programming the modulation options is still a bit of a PITA...

Hi everyone, I'm still around.

piroman :
I gave up making a browser with Synthmaker after two unsatisfied versions. But...
A browser-organizer will be available (made with Visual Basic Express Edition !), actually in beta testing, as soon as the accompanying manual is finished; it remains free, as usual.

johnp352:
I'm studying your great ideas.

chis:
A KS4/5/Rack editor could be done if I owned those beasts for testing while I'm programming; I've dowloaded all technical specifications about those synths to help me understand Xio's sysex structure when programming the first version of Xio Sound Designer.
One of my future projects could be a universal midi editor...

Post

sorry if someone already asked or if you already covered it, but being made with Synthmaker, would it be possible to build a VSTI version?
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

Vsti version is technically possible, but unusable because sysex dumps are ignored by hosts.

A previous vsti version was online and has been removed.

Using virtual midi cables is a better solution.

I have to rewrite a tutorial about.

So maybe this help you in VB Jemap: http://www.codeplex.com/vstnet

The organizer is finally out : unavailable link

You could use separate midi connections inside the plugin. Only limitation in this is that you need to have multi-client midi drivers. Most drivers are.

The editor looks cool! :tu:

Just got my Xio and have been having some fun! The editor really makes it!
I'm a little dissapointed that Novation cheaped out and decided we did'nt need a MIDI IN! I'd like to be able to play this puppy with my guitar synths.

I've just joined here, having just discovered this great-looking editor for my new Xio which sounds great already, but my poor head was getting sore trying to figure out all the combinations of the 3 levels of knobs, lfo options, modulation, etc and feeling like I wasn't really getting to grips with all the options and power. XioSD looks like the answer to my prayers! Can't wait to try it.

@ CapnLockheed: "I'd like to be able to play this puppy with my guitar synths" - can't you just play your guitar synth midi into a sequencer and route the midi back out to your Xio via USB? Maybe you mean live or w/o a pc...

Post

wow! This thing rocks - every parameter instantly editable and you just send the patch over to the Xio to audition your edit - at least I think that's how it works, right? (i.e. it doesn't tweak the Xio directly from the PC, does it? Although tweaking the Xio's knobs turn the knobs on screen, so it seems like it might...)

Anyhow it totally opens up the Xio. And presumably the organiser allows backup of patches & banks to your PC also?

Jemap, this is all like a gift from heaven!

Xio Sound Designer allows real time messages to be sent and received to/from XioSynth, in a bidirectional way. So, turning knobs on screen also sends new values to XioSynth.
The whole sound parameters have to be sent from XioSynth to PC, as there isn't any dump-sound-request sysex feature in the XioSynth's operating system.

The organizer functions are:
- swap two sounds places, in the same bank or from one bank to another;
- save or load banks to/from a sysex file on PC;
- ear each sound of a loaded bank file without having to send the whole bank to the XioSynth;
- import a loaded bank file in the XioSynth;
- save or load a single sound to/from a sysex file on PC;
- display short midi messages;

I tried to make it as user-friendly as I could.
I hope a lot of new user-sounds and user-banks will be avalaible soon with those tools.

Other functions could be added later: in example, a X-gator bank with gates templates (a johnp352's idea), turn a whole bank file in a hundred single program files...

Yeah, I mean live AND without a pc. My Yamaha EZ-EG runs on batteries as does the Xio. If it had a MIDI in I could control it with the EZ-EG and with my Roland Cube Street amp I could busk in the streets!

Of course, I just had to set the correct midi channel out from the editor.

This combo of editor & manager is AMAZING, thanks for developing and sharing it all (and for free)! The only problem is I will never learn to program from the Xio's interface now! :wink:

My only suggestion - saving patches locally to PC directly from the editor - write to the Xio & save to PC as backup (with saved patch number appended to saved name maybe) - would be nice. Otherwise it's pretty perfect. You really deserve some money from satisfied users, not to mention fame and adulation. :) I wonder if any Xio owner who doesn't have this gets 100% out of their synth.
