Zebra's biggest flaw

Voted "Too high Resonance in XMF in high frequencies" it's sharp, less and wider maybe, I find it hard to get 303 ACID squelchers so filter/res/waveshaper tweeks welcome.I'm glad you consider these fine tweeks it frustrates me when dev's hold off progress for he sake of legacy nice one!

It seems obvious, IMHO, that the width of the stripes on the rump should be much narrower, and they should be vertical, not horizontal, like the rest of the upper sections. The legs can remain horizontal, this does not bother me. Also, why no stripes on the flat part of the snout? Bug, limitation, or (undocumented) feature?

Good postsoundpalace wrote:I voted "Too high Resonance in XMF in high frequencies" because it almost makes the XMF filters unusable for my taste. But your list contains some others than I completely agree with too:
Inconsistent volume of filter algos: This is especially noticable with the bandpass filters on the VCF modules, it's hard to drive a saturator when the level of the signal is so low at the filter.
XMF Overload too loud: This is true, which is why I often use it to compensate for the inconsistent volumes of the filters
Waveshapers lack guts: Well, I have been moaning about this for a while now (as you know), and it is indeed true. With the exception of the Vintage2 filter drive, the saturators and drive algorithms are too mellow. I reach for the Virus TI for aggressive sounds and tend to use Zebra2 for smooth & silky sounds (which it does extremely well). You own a Virus TI don't you Urs? Check out OS3 and the new distortions, they are to die for!
I love Zebra2 heaps though, regardless of these flaws, all synths have their weaknesses.
Keep up the great work Urs!!

That's a scarily complicated issue, unfortunately... for the same reason that there are specifc locations for MIDI programs, which are loaded with the first instance.Janne wrote:MIDI learn on the Next/Prev patch buttons!
Will make it much faster to audition sounds...
The basic problem is, one can't access files or do other time consuming tasks from MIDI commands. These operations would have to be scheduled with a timer, which would solve the problem in a live situation but which would badly fail when rendering a mixdown.
It's trick stuff... I have an idea or two here, but this won't happen until after 2.5

I chose waveshapers, but as far as stuff that is more important to me:
- Having a much larger interface for the mod mapper
- Choosing different step numbers for the mod mapper (not just 128)
- An easier way to deal with creating, managing, and importing wavesets
- More waveforms for FM oscs (Tri, some saws and squares)
- Save and load for some more areas (combs, mod mappers, custom LFOs, arps, etc...)
- Some times I want more combs
Thanks for any considerations, Z is still a masterpiece without this stuff!
(Ok, but I would really like the mod mapper improvements!)

Every good programmer knows that white space doesn't count, except for Python which is purely evil. No doubt the white underbelly camouflages the Zebra from pythons that are looking upward.dburns wrote:Is the unstriped white space underneath reserved for an expansion pack?billstei wrote:It seems obvious, IMHO, that the width of the stripes on the rump should be much narrower, and they should be vertical, not horizontal, like the rest of the upper sections. What about just sending the same message to the plugin as the GUI does when a user klicks on the arrows, when the appropriate MIDI messages arrive?Urs wrote:The basic problem is, one can't access files or do other time consuming tasks from MIDI commands. I guess You don't have to do the loading within receiving the MIDI message, just tell the plugin that the user have klicked this button...

For me the biggest flaw is the inability to save the large size as the default when opening up a new instance of Zebra.
