If you look at entries of any single ZPC/APC a good number will be pretty in-yer-face, electronicy, synthy type sounds - that seems to be the kind of thing that floats the boat of many Zebra/APC user. A "Piano" contest isn't likely to interest this crowd and so the numbers will be down - probably significantly.
Well, you have a uber synth like Bazille and you use it to make a piano patch? What's the point, really? There are countless pianos in existence, countless piano sample packs, everyone has heard how a piano sounds like, there have been many synth patches emulating pianos (I remember a FabFilter contest), BUT where's the element of innovation in all that?

Wouldn't it be better to strive for the unheard? I know this sounds cliched, but still. Give people complete freedom and later they will vote for the patch with the greatest "wow" factor. At least you will know what KVR people think is "wow"-worthy.

Anyways, half of the time for the competition has passed and you guys are still wondering what theme it should be about??? Makes no sense to me!

How about that: a Rottweiler bird.

Okay, to avoid further confusion, the discussion here is not about this month's Bazille contest - for which the style of patch people want to submit is a completely free choice!

We're discussing a possible theme for next month's contest which, as we haven't used it for a while, will likely be a Zebra contest.

And to answer the question about why bother emulating a piano or any acoustic instrument Ken Elhardt gives a good account for his reason for doing so.

Point 6. seems particularly relevant with respect to a synth programming contest. ;)

The title of this thread says Bazille Patch Contest. I read the whole thread (more or less) and never saw a mention that you guys are discussing a future contest. Can't you use a different thread and dedicate this one to the current contest?

From the very first page, easy to find:
In a separate thread someone suggested modelling a piano might be an interesting challenge for the next contest.
Anyway, it's up to the participants and organizers to decide, and decide they will. May everyone enjoy the competition!

the 2nd one is more "diode_ish".

10 days to go!

Any more thoughts on the theme for next month's contest?

Tbh, I'm still wary of the 'Piano' idea. I think it's an interesting challenge, but so far only five people have said they're up for it, and nearly as many have said they're against.

The silence is deafening...

If the next ZPC were titled "Keys" to cover all keyboard sounds (pianos, EP's, organs, harpsichords, clavinets, etc.), would that be more appealing to those who think a "Piano" theme is boring?
