Or you could go to youtube and watch videos of the soundtrack there. From what I've heard of it, a lot of it still sounds orchestral, so I'm not buying that 99% of the score was done with Zebra.Kriminal wrote: thats was one of the few films ive seen recently at the cinema (i actually hate the cinema 'experience')
i cant remember the film or the soundtrack....maybe i should watch it again on dvd

So Hans Zimmer is a f**ing liar and a murderer. I mean, he had to kill all the orchestra's musicians to erase the proofs.Elhardt wrote:Or you could go to youtube and watch videos of the soundtrack there. I'm listening to Inception's score in Spotify right now and I can attest that you don't know how a real orchestra sounds. It's all synths.

Whatever, Inception is made with synths.

I think the more accurate description would be that 99% of the Inception score was conceived on synths, but not actually played.

Is it more accurate?spaceman wrote:I think the more accurate description would be that 99% of the Inception score was conceived on synths, but not actually played.
Maybe the guy used some generous hyperbole. That's probably more accurate.

Actually it was 99% of the synth parts done in the movie was Zebra.spaceman wrote:I think the more accurate description would be that 99% of the Inception score was conceived on synths, but not actually played.
The orchestra parts are just that, but the synth parts were done using Zebra.
I'm almost certain I remember a post stating so, anyway.

Maybe 99% of the soundtrack was made, the other 1% barfed out by a chicken.SadPuppyBlues wrote:Is it more accurate?spaceman wrote:I think the more accurate description would be that 99% of the Inception score was conceived on synths, but not actually played.

Ken, you are most famous for making convincing orchestral sounds with synthesizersElhardt wrote:Or you could go to youtube and watch videos of the soundtrack there. We've even done a custom model of the Polymoog resonator you once demoed so impressively for Hans - however, as I know Hans, he might have slightly exaggerated
As far as I know though (and I do have a secret folder stashed with all sounds Howard has ever done for Hans), Zebra's most prominent part on Incpetion are percussion and drum sounds, apart from the actual synths. There are scenes where the count of Zebra instances goes well beyond 50, mostly for live triggered drums and effects.
As with Dark Knight and Angels & Demons, Hans also uses the occasional Moog Modular in Inception. He probably would use only Moog Modulars for synth sounds if it was viable, but time does not permit repatching things. The convenience that Zebra offers is that the whole piece can be played and edited in realtime, with 70-150 patches per movie to choose from, and with a consistent setup of MIDI controls.

We recently had dinner with Hans and "coincidentally" (not quite!) ran into Daniel Miller of Mute/Depeche Mode fame, who I consider as much a fan of Zebra as Hans himself. The two didn't know each other in person despite their common past in London. My wife took a photo of the two with me and Gert from Moon Modular, but we all look too much like weird geeks to ever post that.foosnark wrote:Do you know who else loves Zebra?
Sometimes I regret not giving away free copies to famous people. They've all got paid for licenses, and thus we respect their privacy. (It's admittedly a whole lotta work to win some of them over when they're used to "industry accommodation")
Not surprisingly, I often realize only years later when someone famous got the stuff. For instance, I mailed with Vernon Reid for years before I checked the Living Colour reference (he gave us his Filterscape preset library for public release).
